NOM War Chest to Fight NY Pro-Marriage Equality Republicans
Ben Smith at Politico reports that the National Organization for Marriage is promising to oppose New York GOP senators who vote for marriage equality in their re-election campaigns to the tune of $500K:
"'Gay marriage is not high on the list of any voters' priorities, but
again and again we've seen politicians respond to political money
thrown around by Tim Gill and his friends and ignore the wishes of
their own constituents,' said Brian Brown, executive director of the
anti-same-sex-marriage organization, who said the group is forming a
subsidiary, NOM PAC New York, for the purpose. 'The first half million dollars will be used in GOP primaries,' noted
Brown, "but we are also looking to aid Democratic candidates who want
to buck the establishment on the marriage issue, and to help in general
election contests.'"

Since when did bribing candidates become legal?

It amazes me that NOM has so much damn money.

Log Cabin Republicans? Do I hear a raise on that bid? How about $1 million?

That's a great plan...most voters don't place gay marriage very high on a list of priorities, but they do place putting food on the table, keeping roofs over their heads, getting their children into and through college. $500 million, not to feed the hungry, shelter the poor or put some kids through school...no, let's spend that money on an issue that most voters don't view as a priority. Will Americans who have lost their homes or know someone who has lost their home feel really warm and fuzzy about such a profound misuse of money?
It is a great plan, for it will be so easy to vilify them, expose them as the true Anti-Christians, least Christ like folks to be found, plus we'll bankrupt them! Just keep pushing the issue again and again, until they and the religious organizations that support them go under.
My gosh, these people can't even come up with a commercial that people can't watch without laughing at for their blantant hypocrisy and lies. What buffoons!

Such a waste of money that could go to charity and a wast of this guy's time. Why do people make such a big deal out of two guys together that they go to such lengths is beyond me.

I misread the figure...$500 thousand? They must be joking! They can't be serious...how incredbily amusing they are.

Somehow I doubt any incumbent is going to get themselves elected next time around in New York with or without the help of NOM

I voted for a Democratic candidate when they were running against one of Lou Sheldon's employees. If the Democratic candidate is obviously anti-gay and the Republican is inclusive, cross the aisle.

Um, did I miss an announcement about that marriage equality bill coming to the Senate floor? The clock is ticking ...

Bring it on you stupid closet case! Keep wasting your money and your time. Such incredible assholes. Amazing.

Again, where are these people getting their money?
Why won't they as a non-profit open their books?
Is the Mormon Church solely funding this organization?

NOM doesn't have that much money. If they did, they file their very overdue financial reports. This is all bullshit from them. Most of what they do is to get new low dollar donations from individual uber conservatives, so Maggie can pay her mortgage and Brian can buy more Cialis to impregnate his wife again while staring at the back of her head and imagining her as a man.

Plus it's NY state! If the moderate GOPer get bounced in a promary -- the conservative GOP replacement would be trounced in the general -- it happens every time the GOP trys to do this. (Where would they even get very conservative GOPers as challengers in NY?)
Also -- once marriage is approved, and it won't be voted on until it can pass -- and there is not a way to have a referandum on it unless both houses of the legislature approve it, there is no way NOM will devote resources to that after the law is in place. They've said they'll take out the vote on the NH legislators and the Gov there -- BS!

"'Gay marriage is not high on the list of any voters' priorities..." Now waitaminit! Exactly which poll did he draw that conclusion from? Another dingleberry that pulls "facts" from his ass. But he shore has a pretty mouth....

I have a clever way states could make money. If organizations fail to file their campaign finance reports on time meaning over 90 days late, increase the fees 100.00 an infraction. Maybe we can make money off the NOM!

hmmm 500k....wasn't it projected that NY would make MILLIONS if Marriage Equality was enacted?

"'Gay marriage is not high on the list of any voters' priorities."
Apparently we are not voters. News to me.

Yes, this is a Mormon front operation, and that is where all the money comes from. They decided they needed a disguise after the Prop 8 shitstorm.

NOM is a mormon backed group. Don't be intimidated. Call and email New York State Senators NOW and encourage them to vote YES on marriage equality.

Why is it legal to have bribe money in a democracy ?? It's crooked as it gets
Posted by: MarkBoston | Jun 18, 2009 1:10:44 AM
"Gay marriage is not high on the list of any voters' priorities."
A bit misworded but there is truth to this. When Obama became president, the action group MoveOn.org took a poll of the top 3 priorities we should have. Gay Rights only got 8% of the vote.
