Susan Boyle in Mental Health Clinic After Britain's Got Talent Loss
Overnight sensation Susan Boyle has been admitted to the Priory Clinic, a mental health rehabilitation center, following Saturday's Britain's Got Talent final, at which she came in second to dance troupe Diversity.
Brit tab The Sun reports: "The pressure finally told late yesterday as the Scots singer - dubbed SuBo by fans - was rushed to the private clinic suffering from exhaustion.
Show aides had contacted police to say she was acting strangely at her London hotel. Paramedics helped the 'spaced-out' star through the lobby and into an ambulance just after 6pm.
A Met Police Inspector and a police doctor were called to assist. The ambulance, tailed by a police car, then took her to the Priory in Southgate, North London. A source at the hotel said last night: 'The staff were concerned - something wasn't right. When the paramedics and police arrived she agreed to go voluntarily. She didn't make a fuss. The paramedics calmly took her out through the main lobby and into the waiting ambulance. It was all done very calmly. They didn't want to stress or upset her. She didn't look well - she looked lost, not all there.'"
Diversity and Boyle, and the announcement of the winner of Britain's Got Talent finale and CNN report on Boyle's admittance, AFTER THE JUMP...

Crack is wack.

There is an underlying sadness to the whole Susan Boyle story, which I think has been part of her media appeal. It seems that her future opportunities to record and perform are assured. I hope now she can get the support that she needs. And.....I really hope that Buckingham Palace finds some way to extend an invitation to Ms. Boyle to perform for the Queen. It's obvious that she deserves this honor.

I completely agree with "Chris in MN".
Strange and beautiful, her story is heartwarming; I hope she can recover well enough to make the best of it.

You know that is just sad, poor gal. Really. I hope she is able to recover and have some success at her own pace.

Hi,
I want to say that my partner (Dawn Pugh) and myself refuse to watch these talent programes as we can often predict the unfortuante outcome of such mental and emotional effect that they can potentially offer to someone who has their life's ambition and dream squashed in front of millions.
Get well soon Susan!
Thank you
Regards

Why do you cull reports from the Sun? Isn't it one of the top tabloids in Britain? Is that the direction you are taking your blog--lies about celebrity? Just wondering.
Posted by: maxx | Jun 1, 2009 9:26:45 AM
A lot of this is because of the media. Tabloid hacks moved into the hotel as well and then spent every evening getting the contestants and their families drunk in the bar to get any kind of gossip/rumour they could then run about contestants. Susan Boyle, as the front-runner, suffered badly at the journalists' hands. Having built her up, they were then determined to tear her down. That Ms Boyle has had to cope with one hell of a lot of stress isn't surprising. The lack of adequate PR and press officer support for contestants and their families, though, is frankly horrifying

Will everyone just shut up about Susan Boyle! Just shut about Susan Boyle!

What does her "virginal" status have to do with this story?
I don't think I've ever seen a story on Pope Benedict that starts out with "The 78 year old virgin..."
There's enough that's interesting about Susan Boyle, that precludes having to include whether her maidenhead has been broken.

I hope she can get her first kiss while in the hospital since that absence has obviously driven her mad.
Furthermore I hope she becomes the next Bachelorette for ABC and can follow that appearance up on Dancing with the Whores.
Perhaps she can drive around in a white SUV and be photographed by a helicopter in between shows and it would be nice if she'd expose her vagina while stepping out of a car.
She's got her work cut out for her.
Someone call Maggie Gallagher...we've got a living breathing virgin here...traditional marriage material ripe for exposure!!

Yeah, I agree with "Chris in MN" as well.
There is a sadness to this story, and it starts with our insatiable appetite for this 'rags to riches' paradox. We so desperately want to believe in instant stardom.
You want stardom? Turn of your &#$* TV and take an evening walk. Look at the stars.

unfortunate use of photography in the shot of the facility or hospital -- through iron bars? it brings forth associations with crime or psychosis -- "locked up crazies". much like lottery winners, the rapid destabilization of routine life habits and assumptions in these trajectories is often what gives rise to the poor coping mechanisms. I'd say exhaustion would be a "normal" reaction to the circus she's been through.

This just broke my heart. I just hope she can get well soon and (if she wants to) she records a great CD so we can enjoy her gift.

Is Diversity really THAT diverse?
In watching the post-interview with "Diversity", the act that won "Britain's Got Talent", some members of the group were chatting about the win. When the camera paused on Warren Russell (the member who was shown in tears during the onstage celebration), was talking about how he didn't want to cry "because......I'm a man", he goes on to say, pointing to his mate next to him, Sam Craske "and then, he kissed me." It then turned into a BIG laugh, that BGT editors cut short.
Warren, be happy that Sam kissed you - he's a hottie.

poor girl.
The better act won, but still. Hope she get the love and support she needs and people stop harassing her.

OMG that's crazy. I'm sure she was under a lot of pressure though. But she'll most likely have a singing career still...right?

From the first instant I saw her on the news, I strongly suspected that she had been living with mental health problems for a very long time. She was a reclusive, isolated person who frequently made fun of herself; she stated that she didn't want to go back to her hometown and be laughed at. Social anxiety, depression, agoraphobia: whatever her diagnoses might be, it's clear that she was suffering long before this competition. While the fame machine does chew people up and spit them out, her time in the limelight it not the only factor here. I hope she receives excellent care and can have a comfortable and fulfilling career

How very sad for SuBo to have had to end up at the infamous Priory! On the one hand I don't suppose you've made it until you've had a stint in the Priory on the other hand, who won? Diversity....? And they are?
