Liz sounds like a real piece of shit. The person on the other end of those emails is far too enabling.

SENATOR Boxer is hilarious. Apparently she is stuck on herself and totally doesn't understand military protocol. In the military, you are taught to use Ma'am or Sir as a sign of respect to those of higher rank (yes, you can also use their rank). The general did no wrong except supposedly deflate her ego. Not a fan of Boxer, who kept her mouth shut during Prop 8.
As a side note...Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) quote from his Austin Powers series: "I didn't spend six years in Evil Medical School to be called 'mister,' thank you very much."

Thanks, CB. There is offense taken and offense given. Jeesh!

Yes, CB, but there's military protocol and Congressional protocol. Boxer is not a member of the military. I also understand that the general is just relying on ingrained behavior and she's being a bit difficult, but then she's always a bit difficult. I'm sure she imagined sexism...and she looked like she was damn tired. Per usual.
I don't understand why Colbert needed to be in the room with Obama. Seems like they could have cut/edited that piece without his participation. I don't see how the piece would have turned out differently if an intern had read Colbert's lines, but maybe he just wanted to meet Obama.

If the General (speaking of people who "worked so hard to get that title") had referred to male Senator as "Sir," no one would have peeped. The reason why is that "Sir" is a perfectly acceptable and respectable honorific for a male Senator, just as "Ma'am" is for a woman Senator. I have no beef with Senator Boxer per se, but frankly of the 2 of them it was she who was out of line in that exchange. I agree she looks exhausted. She should send the General a brief, private apology. He did not disrespect her and did not deserve disrespect from her (at least not based on that clip).

Sen. Babs needs some new meds. The General was correct in every sense to address her as "ma'am". He addressed other Senators as "sir". Only Sen. Babs made a fuss about it. Which is why Sen. Babs and the other CA Senator, Sen. Di-Fi as well as The Speakerette of the House, Rep. Pelosi, need to be given their retirement pink-slips very soon. They're embarrassments to themselves, the Democratic Party and women everywhere.
