Introducing Senator-Elect Franken

Harry Reid introduces Senator-Elect Al Franken for his first Senate press conference, quoting former Republican Congressman Vin Weber as saying Franken's detractors will be "pleasantly surprised" to find he "is a smart guy who's serious about issues and a hard worker." Franken reiterates that he is the second senator from Minnesota, not the magic sixtieth vote in the Senate. Hopefully, he's both.

"I am going to work day and night to make sure that our kids have a great future, and that America's best days lay ahead. I'm ready to get to work."

  1. From "Trading Places" to this... I wonder if all the lefties will be as savagely critical of this comedian as they were of actor Ronald Reagan?

  2. Isn't he now Senator Franken rather than Senator-elect?

  3. A comedy writer in the Senate...well at least he has experience.

  4. Freddy

How many national radio stations did you have a hand in bringing about?

Yeah, Air America isn't the most succesful radio station out there, but it is still going and growing.

Frankin didn't just have a show on it, he had a big part in its conception, birth, etc

When you have a huge hand in brining about a national radio station from the ground up, then come biatch. People might take you seriously then.

  5. In case you don't know it, Freddy, Reagan ignored the AIDs crisis. I won't even go into the devastation that his policies, or lack of, wrought on the gay community. If you're gay, you might want to familiarize yourself with some 1980s history.

  6. @FREDDY,
the difference between franken and raygunz is that franken is smart. the 'great communicator' was not only not particularly intelligent, but it became apparant early on that he did not have both oars in the water. sad, but true.

you need not worry about the lefties, the righties have been foaming at the mouth since the court decision came down.

  7. Franken

    Math degree HARVARD

  8. also his books are brilliant. the level of research in Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, with his young, bright and dedicated Harvard research team, was truly impressive. He simply buried Anne Coulter and Hannity and the rest with their own words.

He is much more well-informed than too many other politicians.

  9. Ah, yes, Al Franken, the Senator from Minnesota WHO WAS SELECTED NOT ELECTED.

After all, how else can you describe someone whose margin of victory was less than the number of dead people who voted?

"Franken reiterates that he is the second senator from Minnesota, not the magic sixtieth vote in the Senate. Hopefully, he's both."

Yes, Andy, you would wish that, being both a pimp and a whore for the Democrats. Don't count on much with the likes of Arlen Specter in that magical group of 60. Just keep your fingers crossed and enjoy it while it lasts (which won't be long).

  10. He should be a U.S. Senator because he started a "radio station"? Wow.

Another embarrassment brought about by the voters who elected Jesse Ventura. Funny how he was losing until they started "finding" votes.

He may be Harvard smart enough, but, gosh darn it, I HATE him.

  11. DAVID C,
andy didn't write that sentence, idiot. andy is on vacation. what, are you saying that franken was selected like dubya was, by a judicial coup d'etat?

    LINCOLNLOUNGER,
if you want to talk about embarrassments, look no further than bush/cheney, sarah palin or any of a number of other repugs.

  12. Andy is a Dem pimp huh? Ok, then why has he gone unmercifully after our President? Why has he consistently called Dems on the carpet about DADT?

Don't make blanket statements that you can't back up. I was personally offended by what I felt was one sided coverage of Obama vs Clinton, but, hey, did Andy ever say he was "Fair and Balanced"? Hmm, not to my recollection.

Those of you who don't remember should watch any number of specials about the 80's. Reagan killed us by the thousands.

I'm reading "Fasten Your Seatbelts" , the Bette Davis Bio (I'm Gay, Fuck you! Lol) and even she thought Reagan rather "dim". And that was as an actor. Franken is on a whole other planet from Ronnie. Or Georgie for that matter.

  13. Can the self-hating Log Cabin Republicans at least use some facts and logic to build up their hate-filled posts against the Democratic parties instead of just spewing ill-informed (or direct LIES) opinions based on the irrational fear of anything Democratic?

Why are you even HERE if you support REAGAN, of all people?!

Posted by: Philip Wester | Jul 7, 2009 7:33:01 AM

  14. We can only pity the Log Cabin Republicans. Can you imagine being a member of a party that demonizes you constantly. Talk about an ignorant and out of touch group of gays. I have met a few in my life and one thing is for sure...they are always wrong. They smile while the rupublicans shove their misguided beliefs up their you know what. It reminds me of gays that support the catholic church while it demonizes them and cast them to hell. I urge Log Cabin Republicans and gay Catholics to due a little reading/research and educate themselves how these organizations are in full hate mode towards them.
