Is there a cultural reference I'm missing, or are they just riffing on gay meaning happy? Because this and the other poster on this link are baffling. Which is a polite way of saying stupid.

Paul, I wondered what it meant, but from reading the fine print, I take it they mean that "Gay (as in homosexual) people are not gay (as in carefree and happy)" in Hong Kong because they experience discrimination.

well the morons on this junky production -- pre and post 9/11 -- are truly the most bigoted people (including faggots) with whom i've ever had the dishonor of producing something. when i look back over everything that has been gifted -- within at least a decade -- these people remain the most idiotic, uncreative, uninspiring, trite, selfish, vulgar, and disgusting people -- primarily predicated in the hatred that emanates from the sloppy representation that is their less than gay and far from merry and nothing remotely queer. there are plenty of beautiful places around this country -- let alone the world -- and i cannot believe that supposedly educated, cultivated, spiritual beings are content with the the standards reduced to HATE from any group -- let alone spanning these locations with misrepresentation and redundant urban ghetto segregation.
yes, in relation to this production -- gay people are not gay as there is nothing remotely gay about this production.
a bad script is a bad script is a bad script -- and their fag hag too.

Utterly useless and ineffective. Six-year olds could come up with something more cogent. Whether Hong Kong has an English-speaking population or not becomes irrelevant when considering it is English history and imperial laws that made "gay" a bad word anyway. Chinese culture, as had India's, adopted the gay=bad ideology long ago, but to attempt a play on words in a Chinese (multiple dialect, no less) -speaking country is about as futile as explaining to Westerners how many different variations there are for Wang.
FLUNKED!
