WATCH: Sam Worthington in Avatar Trailer

Avatar

The trailer for Avatar has arrived. It's James Cameron's first return to filmmaking since Titanic, and stars Sam Worthington.

According to First Showing, "Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people."

More on Avatar from Cinema Blend: "Already people are complaining that Sam Worthington's Avatar doesn't look realistic, that the blue skin looks fake, because they haven't had enough time to see it move like a human, hear it talk, or see it respond to its world. Having seen it in Hall H, I promise it works. It just needs time to settle in, and just by showing one complete scene at Comic Con, they sold the effect entirely. Cutting together all the random scenes in the trailer just makes you more disoriented."

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  5. Sam Worthington is meh.

  6. It looks good...not great. I think the movie is just a few years ahead of it's time. The CGI is not quite where it needs to be for this movie.

  7. Too much CGI (and not great stuff at that either)! I though this was supposed to be a revolutionary film??? Maybe it will be better in Imax 3D. (But the female character's facial expressions are rather compelling)

  8. Holy crap, looks awesome...love's me some James Cameron movies.

And Sam Worthington is pretty easy on the eyes.

  9. Looks sexy. And is that Stephen Lang at 0:35? Love him. He should be more well-known.

  10. Wow. And not in a good way.

    Sam Worthington? Yes, please.

Avatar? Looks like epic suckage (and not in a good way).

  13. I think people are being harsh. We dont know the story really, so ill pass on that, but the CGI is actually pretty damn good. Its very hard to fool the brain into thinking CGI people are real.
I just watched the HD+ trailer on my 50 inch plasma and it looks a lot better than the regular one on a PC monitor. I agree with Cinema Blend, the more you see the blue aliens the better they look.

  14. Seems like a waste to hide Sam Worthington's hotness behind the guise of a blue CGI creature, but still hoping this flick lives up to the Comic-Con hype...

Speaking of cinema hotties, I caught an advance peak of INGLORIOUS BASTERDS last night and was completely smitten by German actor Til Schweiger. Here's hoping this Deustch dreamboat gets imported for a LOT more American screentime: http://www.google.com/m/search?site=images&oe=UTF-8&client=safari&hl=en&q=Til%20Schweiger&ct=more-results&sa=N

  15. Critics were panning it even before it came out. The studio was worried. I recall watching the trailer with a friend thinking what nonsense is coming. Leonardo and Kate became mega stars!! It brought the top grossing film in history plus Celine Dion (lol) Maybe it will beat it's sister Titanic and become the greatest hit and/or bomb.

  16. I liked it better when it was called "Farscape" ... and when Henson's company was running the show.

  17. I'm surprised at how negative these comments are - I loved the trailer and was fascinated with the imagination of it all. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out no doubt.

  18. The advent of CGI was the death of cinema. If i want to watch true animation, i have Fantasia on DVD.

  19. Epic Bomb. Someone's head will roll on this one. Count on it.

  20. I just have to say I'm baffled and disappointed at the overall look of the avatars. They look like tribal/jungle versions of ThunderCats. (Mixed with a dash of plushie porn.) I was expecting something a lot more sophisticated and elegant. And not, like someone mentioned above, a Jar Jar Binks look. It has the whiff of shiny sci-fi/fantasy paperback cover art. If anyone can pull it all off, it's Cameron. So he's still getting my money. I just hope he does.

  21. Wow, does this look bad, are we sure it's not a video game? If I had seen this with no information I would have thought, a new Xbox game. I still can't believe it.
