Neil Patrick Harris Presides Over 2009 Emmys
Neil Patrick Harris (arriving with his partner David Burtka) did a smash-up job of delivering the 2009 Emmy Awards telecast last night. Here's a winner's list.
I've posted two of NPH's Emmy numbers (the opening, and a cameo from his web alter-ego Dr. Horrible), AFTER THE JUMP...

Love NPH but what was up with the tacky white too tight tuxedo jacket and the black pants that ate his torso? Neils outfit looked like a cheesy bus boy at a 3rd rate New Jersey chop house.

the opening song was terrific. NPH did a great job with it and the show. david burtka must have been so proud (that cutie.)

I was really hoping he would win so I could see him kiss his boyfriend on live TV.
P.S. Was it me or when they were going to a commercial break at one point I thought I saw NPH getting a little physical and maybe throwing a hissy fit at someone when he was on the backstage cam. It looked like he pushed the guy and knocked some sheets of paper out of his hands. Anyone else see that?

Who would have ever though Doogie Howser would turn out so hot, talented and a great entertainer? You go, Neal!!

I think those backstage cam shots were an ongoing gag. There was another one where he wan sitting in a director's chair being pampered and drinking champagne while a production assistant tried to get him to stop drinking on the job. He (comically) turned away from the assistant to continue drinking.
On another note, I loved how NPH and show were aimed at a younger audience with their references to new media while also trying to appeal to traditional awards show viewers. Breaking the show into genres was also a great move.

Yes MT, it;s called comedy.

He did an incredible job, of course. What a man.
And MT- All part of the show. There was one later in the show where he threw a drink at someone, I think. It was just him acting out, comedically.
I loved the stage, too, btw. Really beautifully done.

MT, I wanted to see them kiss too. You took words out of my mouth on both of your comments.
I saw the hissy fit and was thinking it was done on purpose (at least hoping it was done on purpose). I didn't get to see the other one mentioned because we had a power outage (rghhh) just as reality started until sometime after miniseries and movies.
Yes, NPH looked great and is great all around. (I do hope the fit was an act.)

I think its entirely possible that NPH is the greatest man alive.

NPH was awesome; the stage was incredible!!! The opening number was entertaining. And I agree - it's a pity he didn't win - it would have been great to hear him thank his partner...just like that producer from Ireland thanked her partner and commented, "it'll be the three of us in bed tonight!" and the camera cut away to her woman smiling proudly!!!

NPH was a fantastic host and I have to say the show was one of the best in years...too bad it ran against football. He is receiving praise across the board for his hosting duties, however, it makes one wonder, what would have happened if he won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy and on LIVE television he kissed David (since he was sitting in the audience next to David for that segment). I could picture those right-wingers eyeballs popping out and condemning the network for showing it.

David Burka is hot. Glad NPH has him.

He was awesome... I was actually tuning out of the awards and as soon as he'd start speaking again, my head would perk back up from the laptop. I definitely wouldn't have made it through the whole show without him keeping me interested.
