Rachel Maddow on Right-Wing Conservatives, Republicans, and Porn

Maddow

Rachel Maddow takes a look at where the conservatives at the Values Voter Summit and the "mainstream" Republican party collides, with a closer look at Bob McDonnell and the Governor's race in Virginia and chief of staff to Senator Tom Coburn, who declared at the VVS that straight porn makes you gay.

  1. If porn makes a person gay, i think about 95% of people are probably gay then.

  3. RM is totally the voice of reason. Even when she's tearing apart an opponent you have to agree with her because she makes perfect sense and she doesn't rely on hysterical arguments to make her point.

  4. I love Rachel Maddow. Her kind of good-natured sneering at the GOP and like others have said, her refusal to resort to hysteria a lá her Fox counterparts makes her very appealing!

  5. Great reporting, but one correction. Liberty University is the institution of "higher" learning founded by the late Jerry Falwell, not Pat Robertson. Since I have never looked at straight porn, maybe I am not gay after all ...

  6. We can win the future hearts and minds of our children by lying to them!

  7. What i find most interesting about Michael Schwartz's comment is this, First he prefaces his statement that "All Pornography is Homosexual Pornography", by saying that 10 and 11 year old boys - "have less tolerance for homosexuality than just about any other class of people" They speak badly about homosexuality, and that’s because they don’t want to be that way. They don’t want to fall into it.” So my observation is this, in an effort to "stop the rise" of addiction to Pornography, he is using this syllogism as a means and a tool to impart on people to tell their young boys "If you read, use, watch, or participate in porn of any kind YOU WILL BECOME HOMOSEXUAL"! It's a form or threat and it's the latest scare tactic!

How do you best keep young people from using porn? SCARE THEM INTO BELIEVING THAT TO SEE PORN IS TO BECOME HOMOSEXUAL!!

  8. @RAY: Rachel corrected this error at the end of her show last night and apoligized. When has anyone for FOX ever done this?

I love her show. I love her - I am in a bad mood on evenings where I don't get to watch her show. This was a great report. Go Rachel!

  9. McDonnell's law school thesis was from Regent University, which WAS founded by Pat Robertson.

  11. I have a sneaking suspicion that "porn makes you gay" is the new "masturbation gives you hairy palms." I have a good friend whose parents are Mormon (he himself shuns religion) who has shared with me that his parents told him the same thing growing up. I just pushed it aside as the bizarre teachings of Morons. I think this bs scare tactic is out there and nobody is talking about it. Notice how hush-hush McDowell is when he brings it up. I wonder how many other kids have been fed this shit?!
