Cindy McCain Gets Mouth Taped Shut for NoH8 Campaign

Cindy_mccain

Here's Cindy McCain's photo shot for Adam Bouska's NoH8 Campaign. Writes Bouska:

"Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn't matter - marriage equality isn't a Republican issue any more than it is a Democratic issue. It's about human rights, and everybody being treated equally in the eyes of the law that runs and protects this country."

Cindy has, in the past, expressed her thrill at hanging out with gay Republicans. Unfortunately, she didn't speak up about her husband's support of Proposition 8 when it could have made more of a difference.

  1. I'm glad she did the ad. It's too bad she looks like a demon in the picture.

  2. Good for her, she's taking after Meghan, but a handful of Republicans (particularly ones who aren't in elected office and have no practical power beyond the power of suggestion) supporting marriage equality does not a tolerant party make. I applaud the few who have broken from the solidly anti-gay Republican mold.

Look at state legislatures across the country and see the Republican record on gay issues. Look at the newly elected Sen. Brown and the teabagging crowds. Look at the US House and Senate and Bush and McCain (had he won) if you want an accurate picture of where we're at in the Republican party. Not that I'm applauding the national Dems at the moment, but the notion that Dems and Repubs view gay rights thru an equal lens is pure malarky.

  3. actually i believe mccain himself was not opposed to gay marriage, of course Sarahcuda was, but whether it's too little too late or whatever, it's still more than obama and his hoochy mama are saying or doing.

  4. "I'm glad she sis it. Too bad she looks like a demon"

You know - with comments like that you wonder why anybody helps anyone. Stop being so awful.

  5. I would like to wholeheartedly agree with commentators like Craig @ 2:52 PM above but I just don't think this sort of thing means much coming from republicans ... A large part of what makes them republicans is that they believe in loyalty and obedience more than they do in any ideas or ideals or policy, and no matter how relatively-progressive they may appear when they do things like what Cindy is doing here, they are nearly ALWAYS ready & willing to compromise their stance in order to get along with the Sarah Palins of the world whenever they feel it is expedient. Cindy's husband is a prime example of that sort of behavior. How many times, for example, did he loudly criticize Bush for his torture policy, only to then turn around and campaign for him against Kerry? The republicans who claimed they hated Palin and thought she was totally unqualified only to go on and vote for McCain while she was on the ticket are no different. They claim to have ideas about policy but all they have ever had is an interest in traditionalism for its own sake, loyalty for its own sake, and obedience for its own sake, without ever being genuinely willing to take a good long look at the pathetic people they align themselves with.

  7. "actually i believe mccain himself was not opposed to gay marriage"

And what gave you that idea, Sid? Maybe you're living in his brain and know his private thoughts but publicly John McCain, like the vast majority of his Repub colleagues:

    Opposes marriage equality and CUs
    Supported Prop 8
    Opposes ENDA
    Opposes gay couples adopting children
    Opposes repeal of DADT
Opposed adding sexual orientation to hate crimes legislation
Supported amendment to AZ constitution banning marriage equality and denying benefits to unmarried couples

He does oppose a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, the only marginally pro-gay stance he has taken.

  8. Good for her, it's a nice gesture. I wish the Obama's could take a stance on anything.

Oh, and THOSE EYES ARE FIERCE. She's so pale though!

  9. I've met Cindy McCain, but I didn't think even Photoshop could pull all the wrinkles out of that leathered carcass.

  10. LOL. Dag, Bren, you beat me to it.

Where was that fabulous hair and makeup during the campaign? Alas, the hands never lie.

  11. I think this is big news. It matters in the heartland. I was never her fan, but I am now.

  12. As someone who voted for McCain this is not a surprise at all. I know it's Cindy in this ad but neither of the McCains has the stomach for the religious-nut wing of their party (he lost the SC primary in 2000 precisely because he refused to cow-tow to the bigots at Bob Jones University). They've both made that view public, and it is well known among Senator McCain's supporters. Oh and shut up: yes McCain said he was against gay marriage but so did your deity Obama. And so far I haven't seen any improvement in gay and lesbian rights since Obama came to office, nor do I see it on the horizon. Gays and lesbians have been told they'll have to wait until the last year of Obama's SECOND term before they can expect to see any meaningful legislation. Guess what? He may not be in office then or, more likely, he won't have the majorities in Congress to pass such bills.

Good for Cindy. I want her and Elizabeth Edwards running this country. It would be a heck of lot more fair and certainly more interesting than the snores in office now.

  13. Kudos, especially when her hubby will be campaigning for re-election later this year. Any ally is a good ally, although I will agree that now she needs to take the next step with time and/or money.

  14. What a maverick. Seriously, I'm glad...now the 2 blondes need to convince John to stop voting against LGBT rights at almost every interval.

  15. I'm not a fan, but good for her.

The important thing is, she's showed her support. Earlier would have been nice, but unrealistic.

Being negative about her support because it came "too late" is like yelling at someone for taking "too" long in coming out...it's their journey, not yours.

  16. Fuck this cunt. Trash.

  17. Why would she be looking for media time? Cindy McCain HATED the fact she had to be IN the media because her husband was running for President...she was visibly uncomfortable during the entire campaign.
And, her husband is up for re-election this year...pretty sure his staff and Arizona Republicans are NOT happy she did this.

  18. I think there is a terrific story underneath her polished and powdered veneer. She is a drag queen and I like that. She is/was a pill head, love that more.

I think she understands that being pretty is more important than anything and that money is meant to be used to get prettier. Loving her more.

In the new Political Book on Election 2008 they pretty much say she has a parmour who isn't 134 years old with torture flashbacks.

Love her, want to be her. Perhaps she has performed her last good wife duty and is now being who she wants to be regardless of the Republican Party's agenda.

Those photos for No8 are killer. Her's and Dr. Drews should hang together in a hot older person's gallery at Cracker Barrel or something.

  20. To everyone bashing McCain, his wife and his daughter, I encourage you to read the article at the following link:

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2079457/posts

Is it disappointing that the John McCain who ran for President in 2008 wasn't the same John McCain who, in 2000, called Pat Robertson, Bob Jones and Jerry Falwell agents of intolerance? Absolutely. Was his support of Prop 8 encouraged by a desire to be elected President? Most likely. But we should all embrace the fact that he has raised such an open-minded daughter and that he married a woman who publicly supports marriage equality. Blindly hating someone based on their political affiliation is exactly what we should all stand against.

  21. "Blindly hating someone based on their political affiliation is exactly what we should all stand against."

Perhaps you should address that to Senator McCain instead of commenters on a gay blog who are sick of his intolerant voting record, jerkoff.

  22. What has our worthless president Obama done for Gay rights lately?

    He lost my vote

  23. I DO know that the McCains are supposed to be very cool with gays in their personal lives. How much this would have affected their decisions if he'd been elected is anyone's guess though. If not for Palin, it probably would have been the same as it is with Obama.

  24. "Fuck this cunt. Trash", Wister ? Yup. The gay is such an admirable creature these days.

  25. And Obama and his wife have done what.......................for gays. At least Cindy showed up for the party. Oh wait Obama did give a few of the A list gays a little soiree this past June. Its time for him to go.
