Watch: Stunning Time-Lapse of 'Miracle on the Hudson' Plane Salvage

1549

Here's a fascinating time-lapse video of the salvage of Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger's U.S. Airways flight 1549 which was shot over three days last year as the Airbus A320, which held together and helped save the lives of the 155 aboard, sat in the icy Hudson River awaiting salvage.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Exclusive unseen video footage of the Miracle on the Hudson, flight 1549 New York City from David Martin on Vimeo.

  1. Incredible footage and amazing musical accompaniment! Does anyone recognize the music set to this video? It sounds like perhaps a movie musical score.

  3. That is absolutely amazing footage. Oddly enough, the food on the plane actually became edible after being submerged in the frozen water for such a long period of time.

  4. We drop our toys into the river. Everybody cries.

We pull them out again. Everybody cheers.

We're a heroic species. You can tell by the music.

  6. I'm stunned! No one here has blamed George Bush for this accident....at least not yet! Way to go Sully! It was great to meet you in Pasadena for the Rose Parade You were an excellent Grand Marshall!

  7. Blame Bush? He wouldn't have noticed this plane coming down the Hudson any more than those on 9/11.

  8. Very interesting footage but the music and graphics are a little over the top. It was mostly Sulley's skilled landing combined with a little luck or miracle (whichever you believe) and a calm, nearly empty river that kept the plane together. To portray the plane as an unsung hero is a bit dramatic.

  9. I can't believe you all didn't recognize the beautiful music from "Transformers"!

Which, I think is one of the best contemporary scores for any movie.

I am amazed that the plane could be raised from the depths of the river. Especially because it's frozen. At least that plane isn't a tomb, and the fragile existence between man's flight and nature...respect must be paid.

  10. What I want to know is why does the water flow two different directions? First the ice chunks are drifting one direction and then they're drifting back the other way. Is this really close to the harbor? Because it seems like the tide is washing the "ice bergs" down stream and then up.

  11. The reason ice flows in both directions is that much of the Hudson "River" near Manhattan is actually a tidal estuary. This means that water flows with the tides -- in and out.

  12. Beautiful footage, but it drags a bit in the middle and the score is over the top. I have seen great time lapse clips on Vimeo.
