  2. Maybe he should fix what's wrong with San Francisco first. . .

  3. ...Where he can get a window office at the statehouse and have the important job of watching for approaching glaciers.

  4. AUSTIN: I can't add anything to your comment.

  5. This seems pretty desperate.

  6. Brown/Newsom. I could live with that.

  7. Uuuum, do people realize what he's done from the LGBT community? Newsom put his career on the line by standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. One of the reasons he didn't run for Gov. was Newsom's stance on LGBT issues as his advisors insisted he wait for the dust to settle from the aftermath of Prop 8. It's not desperation, it's intelligent campaigning.

  8. I don't know why anyone would want the job.

As Mayor of San Francisco, Newsom has far more power and prestige than he would as Lt. Governor. I'd even question whether it would be a good career move for Janice Hahn, even though she's only a councilor. Maneuvering to become Speaker of the L.A. City Council would give her far more influence than having a do-nothing office in Sacramento.

Like the Vice President of the United States, the Lt. Governor of California has one constitutional duty as President of the Senate. That is, to break ties in the event that the senators are evenly divided. And it is a duty that hasn't been exercised in decades.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Lt. Governor was the deciding vote on several important social reforms. Getting rid of the statutory ban on sodomy and interracial marriage for instance. However, the Democrats have since become the permanent majority party in the chamber. And having a 20-20 outcome is almost unheard of nowadays.

  9. >>One of the reasons he didn't run for Gov. was Newsom's stance on LGBT issues

Oh honey, your naivete is simultaneously charming and nauseating.

The main reason Gav bailed on his run for Gov was because he getting trampled by Jerry Brown in fundraising.

If Gav really had the courage of his convictions, and wanted a larger platform to advance gay rights, he would have continued his run.

Gav is really kind of just a thin-skinned empty-suit politician who used the gay community to advance his own personal ambitions. He's the epitome of the shallow, narcissistic politician (see also: John Edwards). He even slept with his "best friends" wife! Ugh. What a slime ball.

Now I'll wait for LelandBedwellTrollovitch to show up to defend Newsom and then go back to Room 103 at SF City Hall and crawl under the desk and suck Newsom's balls.

  10. Grabbin, we've been down this road before and while charming your ignorance is alarming. I (and many others) will not engage you in discussion when you post hate filled comments with a childish username that attempts (and fails) to discredit another human being.

  11. I could care less who Gavin sleeps with, he was a good mayor in SF and a national leader on glbt civil rights. His efforts on behalf of getting SF a public option was something both great for the city and revolutionary for a city. I do a weekly podcast in Massachusetts and had some Boston City Councilors, as well as Mayoral candidates on and talked with them about SF's very successful, affordable and popular public option program and not one of them studied it or took it seriously... because none of them were anywhere near as forward looking and willing to take chances as Gavin Newsome.

Perfect guy? Absolutely not, but who is and who cares? Good politician, who's done a lot of great things? Absolutely.

I was saddened by the fact that he dropped out of the race, but unfortunately he just didn't have the state-wide platform to really compete with Brown. Not many democratic candidates in California would.

You mean the city-funded health care program idea who he stole from another local politician when he realized it was going to pass with or without his support, so then he hopped on the bandwagon and took credit for it??

Like I said - the Gav is a real sleazeball.

Read the SF Weekly article that came out last year about how what an empty politician shallow vainglorious narcissitic scumbag he is.

Only good thing he's ever done as Mayor is he recently decided to start enforcing the law requiring police officers to turn over to the ICE illegal immigrants arrested for committing crimes.

  13. I'd love to see Gavin in a larger role, frankly his is a solitary voice in the Dem party and I will always revere his willingness to speak openly and honestly about the gov't's double-standard for gay people.

My biggest concern is the Board of Stupidvisors and who they would choose to fill his position.

  14. What do some of you mean that you don't care who he sleeps with? Does it not bother any of you that he has the lack of morals to sleep with the wife of his best friend, a man who worked tirelessly to get him onto office in the first place! And lets not forget his coke addiction problems. This is a man who is only where he is at because of Getty fortune monies. He is not a man of caliber at all and should not be allowed out of SF. Residents of SF are even sick of his grandstanding.

  15. grabby, you're like a wet fart. Really, could a cunt be bigger than you? Could god create a cunt so big he couldn't be it himself? Well, you're that cunt.

  16. Oh, and I'm not defending Gavin Newsom. I don't live in california or san francisco, but I've been. And aside from the chinese food (get between a jew and his chinese food, and you're about to die a long slow painful death), blah blah blahs.

  17. Bravo for the rational, realistic comments about the good Gavin Newsom has done, has tried to do, and will continue to try to do despite merely being human and despite the evidence supplied by others here that proves that cockroaches will always be with us. The only changes in billions of years is that they've gotten smaller and in attention to hiding behind walls can now hide behind phony screen names. My name is Michael Bedwell. What's yours?

  18. Surprised you were able to get away from sucking Gav's dick long enough to write that BS, Michael- er, Leland, er-Bedwell, er....

Oopsy- I must have said something true to elicit that response, TankyTank!

By the way haven't you heard - "cunt" is now considered a positive word! I read it right here in the comments section of Towleroad!!

  20. Go, Gavin, Go!

  21. This is the perfect job for him, it has no real responsibilities and all you have to do is show up for an occasional photo op. The job of Lt. Gov. actually should be abolished to save the state some money. I find it interesting that all the people who think he was such a good mayor don't seem to actually live in San Francisco.

  22. We are queers, but we are not ONLY queers. Newsom is good on lgbt issus, but shitty on immigrant rights isuses. I don't support racists. I don't support Newsom.
