Video: First Same-Sex Couple Married in Washington D.C.

Dcmarriage

In case you missed the live stream earlier, here's video of the first same-sex couple to marry in Washington D.C. this morning, Angelina Young and Sinjoyla Townsend.

The Washington Post profiled Young and Townsend today: "Young and Townsend don't know why anyone would want to read about them. They're boring people -- a community outreach coordinator (Young) and a D.C. government supervisor (Townsend). They read, they shoot pool, they occasionally go dancing, they walk the dog. Townsend, 41, paints and has filled their Southeast Washington home with art. Young, 47, is a bubbly Lucille Ball type. They complement each other. What more is there to say?"

It's a great day in our nation's capital.

  1. This is incredible!! The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington DC performed outside the HRC building as some of the couples, community leaders (including Frank Kameny), and others entered the building for these historic marriage ceremonies.

  4. What a lovely couple. As the reverend said, let their hope be our hope and their joy be our joy. All the best to these pioneering ladies.

  6. Just got finished reading all the comments on the Faux News website about gay marriages in DC. Surprisingly, they are overwhelmingly positive. Looks like there may be some hope after all. You can check it out here:

  8. Congrats to all the couples. I do notice that when there is nothing to bitch about, there aren't many comments, lol.

  9. I'm thrilled for all of the couples, although I'm not sure it's accurate that Angelina and Sinjoyla were the first couple married today. One couple was married by a minister right outside City Hall. Another went upstairs to the chambers of a judge (friend of the family) who married them.

Of course, the order doesn't matter. What matters is that couples in D.C. (and, by extension, Maryland) finally have the chance to obtain almost full equality under the law.
