Roseanne Barr Goes After the Catholic Church

Roseanne Barr has laid into the Catholic Church and the clergy sexual abuse epidemic as only Roseanne can.

Roseanne She writes, on her blog:

"the pedo priests are trying to cover up the number of LITTLE GIRLS they have molested too, as if that doesn't matter as much as what happens to boys. Trust me, the number of girls raped and molested by priests is at least double the boys. They are trying to cover it all up so that they can end up purging gay priests, and laying the blame on them. The fact is pedos like to rape both boys and girls, and only a small number of pedos are exclusively into male children. I am starting to think that any parent who takes their kids to catholic churches from now on should lose custody. Taking your kid where you know sex offenders hang out is inexcusable!!!"

  1. LoL ... Roseanne is nuts. But sometimes she is spot on! Like this time!

    Bravo Ms. Barr :)

  2. Well done her. This time she is spot on although i would say any parent who takes a child to ANY church should lose custody.

  3. Doesn't she usually end up posting retractions and then dropping these issues when she posts such strong opinions based on emotional rhetoric instead of fact?

Girls are abused at twice the rate as boys are by Catholic priests? I haven't heard this before.

    Countdown to her retraction....3....2....1

Right. Because EVERY member of the Catholic clergy is a sex offender. And let's send the children of every Catholic (which by the way there are about 55 million in the U.S.) to DFACS and into foster care. Because no home environment is more stable than foster care.
Have another drink, Roseanne. In fact, have several.

  5. Garrett, fuck off. She is merely using an outrageous statement to make a good point in a more aggressive way. It got your panties in a wad, didn't it? That's what she wanted to happen.

  6. She's right

  7. Good point. If someone brought up the number of girls who have been molested (and I'm assuming there is a number of them too) it would certainly put a dent in the church's strategy of trying to say this is the fault of gay people.

  8. @Garrett
No one is saying that every member of the Catholic clergy is a sex offender. The problem is that when the hierarchy reassigns cleargy to other situations where they can continue their illegal behavior, you can no longer be assured of your child's safety.

There was a teacher in my high school who preyed on boys and when the administration found out, he was gone in a heartbeat--not reassigned to a different school.

  9. Garrett, its not just the paedophilia, its also the baseless and retard crap they spout on a daily basis. You do know its all crap, right?

  10. Lets be honest, they would just say the priests molesting girls are pre-op transsexual lesbians. After all they already have the clothes.

  11. R's outrageous comment opens the door for other people in a public eye to even acknowledge that this baloney is going on...

The Khurch would like to portray their detractors as a "fringe" group, or as something related to the "gays" and Rosie, 'god love her' ain't gonna let that happen.

If the comment gets discussed on "The View" that many more parents might consider if they should continue to support a discriminatory, predator-protecting hate group like the Katholic Khurch!

  12. Roseanne, let's go a step further: any parent who willingly exposes their children's developing minds to mythological, superstitious nonsense should lose custody as well...

  13. I think she is spot on except for her "twice as many girls as boys". That's just ridiculous.

And when has our society EVER cared less about what happens to girls than happens to boys? If some people care more about a boy being raped by a man than a girl being raped by a man it's not because of the gender of the victim, it's because of the perception that being forced to have homosexual sex is much worse than being forced to have heterosexual sex. Just look at the response from the general public when a male child is sexually molested by a female. Is ANYONE going to argue that we care more about him than a girl?

Otherwise, I think she was spot on with how they are trying to scapegoat gays.

  14. Below is an excerpt from the John Jay report, which was commissioned by the Catholic Bishops. It is the report which basically everyone uses when reporting about this issue. If what Roseanne says is true, where is she getting the information? I can't find it with a google search.

"An overwhelming majority of the victims, 81%, were males. A majority of the victims were post-pubescent adolescents with a small percentage of the priests accused of abusing children who had not reached puberty.

The John Jay Report determined that just under 6% of victims were 7 years of age or younger. 16% of the victims were between age 8 and age 10.

Some sources have asserted that most of the victims were between the ages of 16 and 17, making the sexual abuse instances of hebephilia rather than pedophilia. These sources argue that, by failing to make this distinction, the media has fostered a misconception of the problem. The vast majority of the victims were between age 11 and age 17. Only 15% of the victims were 16 to 17 years of age; 51% were between the ages of 11 and 14."

  15. her comments could be right on. the priest that feld to india i accused of having sex with a girl. the bishop refuses to send him back for questioning. what puts the church ahead of civil law. time to show them they are still liable for civil laws.

  16. I'm not sure if she has any inside info because her background is Jewish and Mormon. However, as a one-time defender of Paula Poundstone, she might feel it best to get out in front on this issue.

  17. MIKE, if you are looking to be grammatically correct, then the proper term for sex with a person between 11 and 14 would be "pederasty". I agree that the word "pedophilia" has been overused and misused but even with the correct terminology the bottom line is that this was a systemic abuse within the Catholic Church, at all levels, that was sick and illegal and the church has spent HUGE resources to cover the crime up.

Still, Rosanne's claim about the number of girls abused is the ranting of an extremist womanist who won't let the facts get in the way of her victim campaign. With her it seems that the only REAL victims in any situation are female victims, and perhaps, on occasion, gay male victims (because we're not REALLY male).

  18. I love roseanne! Only she has taken the view of laying it out like it is. She has spoken out against private school's and their delinquency rates and also now against the catholic church for being a haven for
    child molesting (male/female) adults.
I dont think their is a parent in the world who would disagree with that unless their faith is truly blinding them of the facts in front of them.

  19. She's right! Long before all of the boys revealed that they had been abused by clergy, legions of girls were being raped by priests. Believe me, I know many who have been. It's just not as newsworthy or "outrageous" to be raped by a man if you're a girl.

  20. It sounds like Roseanne has just written the ballot argument for a California initiative like Prop 22 or Prop 13. The Catholic Church should have to finance a campaign to prevent the state from closing down all their schools.

  21. Not much for little things like conclusions derived from facts by the use of reason, is she?

"Stand back, bitches! I'm having a feeling and I'm gonna rationalize it."

She'd make a great tea-bagger, fundamentalist, or UFO conspiracy theorist.

  22. she has a point. nothing gets heterosexuals in an uproar more than a "gay" priest abusing a "straight" boy. but, priests seducing and raping girls is hardly ever publicised. the catholic church has lost all claim to moral authority.

  23. i never thought i would say this, but she is so damn right. perfect and spot on. she has always been a nutcase for me, so this astounded me.

  24. In the "real world" 70-80% of abuse cases are against girls. I think taking one (possibly biased) study and using that as an irrefutable proof is dangerous. The truth is that the media is currently concentrating on abuse of boys and neglecting the fact that this is only part of the problem. The Vatican is just using this to their advantage.

  25. um... does that mean parents shouldn't take their kids to school or allow them to play a sport or join a club either?
'Cause "pedos" hang out there too. They are everywhere. They are at your family reunion, at your kid's play date, at your kid's slumber party. Sorry to burst your bubble, Roseanne, but "pedos" are EVERYWHERE!
