Iowa Rep. Steve King Freaks: I Told You The Gays Would Come
Iowa Rep. Steve King freaked out over numbers released earlier this week that showed more couples were coming to Iowa to get married there than residents.
“Just over one year ago, when the Iowa Supreme Court decided to ignore Iowa law and grant same sex couples the ability to get married in our state, I predicted that the decision, absent action by the state legislature to enact a marriage license residency requirement, would turn Iowa into the gay marriage Mecca. Now, the Iowa Department of Public Health is reporting that of the more than 2,000 same-sex couples who were married in Iowa between April 27, 2009, and March 31, 2010, sixty percent were from out of state. Unfortunately, we’ve seen another legislative session pass without action on either a constitutional amendment to overturn the court’s decision, or a marriage license residency requirement to keep the harmful effects of the court’s decision from being imported by ‘altar shoppers’ into other states. This new report from the Department of Public Health reemphasizes the short-sightedness of the court’s decision to enact a same-sex marriage law from the bench, and it provides even more evidence of the need for a residency requirement and a constitutional amendment to repeal it.”
Apparently King favors his own bigotry over the bucks marriage equality has likely brought to the state.

It's now only a matter of time before his rent-boy sex tape youtube video of acts so revolting his wife would puke will surface. Although, in his case I hope at least it's with another mid-aged man, as I'm getting bored with the more common Daddy Republican with skinny twink match-ups.

Harmful effects, Mr. King?
Oh, like people coming into your state, eating at your resturants, buying your gas, staying at your hotels, possibly buying merchandise, and in general helping your economy?
Gee, that IS harmful, you idiot.

I'd like to see the percentage of straight couples who travel to Las Vegas to get married. What's his point exactly?

Exactly, what's his point?

Curtis...his point is.....he doesn't like us Gays who don't live in that "dang"state coming there and gettin hitched, and sleepin together in thier motels and hotels. This man is one sick Mofo...well I don't think he really has to worry about millions fo gays storming the state line of Iowa ie: Capital One Commericals LOL this man is a Dinosaur, and luckily, tho NOT fast enough..his kind are dying out.

his wife wouldn't puke she would stand there lovingly gazing into his eyes signging stand by your man. isn't that what all the protectors of marriage do. i never seen so many women who are willing to do this just for money and power

And how does this affect him in the least? He seems like the kind of guy who also complains about the way his neighbor mows his lawn.

Sorry but a state that has more Denny's than gay bars is never going to be a gay mecca.

Somebody put a tail on this guy and track his movements. I swear his own gay sex scandal is going to break anyday the way he is obsessed with homosexuality.

"The British are coming....oops I mean the gays are coming the gays are coming!"

the financial effect of 2000 extra weddings in a state the size of Iowa is nothing to sneeze at. he's an idiot, once again, in trying to alienate perfectly good supply and demand business—isn't that what Republicans always talk about? i'm sure jobs have been created keeping up with demand also. a friend of mine does flowers in connecticut and has much more business with gay weddings now.

Not to ruin his "logic", but there are far more interesting places most gay people in this country can go to to "altar shop". Given a choice between New England and Iowa, most would head to New England.
EXCEPT for people with family in Iowa. Family, like parents and grandparents who are residents in Iowa. You know, gay people who left Iowa thanks to bigots like Rep. King and go back home to get hitched.

0ver 9600 'hetersexual couples' were divorced in his state last year. Family values galore.

Hey, iowa's not so bad. They're the largest producer of pork in the united states, and steve king proves it. PIG!

And despite this douche's bigoted tantrum, Iowa has proven to be more progressive and interested in social justice than california and new york.

Is is me, or does not this asswipe, Steve King, have an amazing likeness to one Roy Cohn?

My partner and I married in P-town 6 years ago, second thought we should of done it in IO. Why dont these people worry about their OWN family and leave the rest of us alone in our own privacy with the right to be happy too (just like I am) why? what is it to you? why all this hatred? how is that affecting you? .. this UPHILL battle, gets old, repetitive and frankly emotionally draining. fuck them.

Closet Queen? By the way, I have been to Iowa many times. It is a beautiful state full of wonderful people and Rep. King is giving the residents of Iowa a bad name.

I love how he claims the Iowa Supreme Court ignores Iowa law. That's Republican for "I ignore the constitution that gives the Supreme Court (Iowa) it's ability to distinguish good law vs. bad law" Does anyone envision that this rant of his ends with "Sieg Heil" and his finger placed over his upper lip like a moustache?

Why can't they leave the Gays alone and let us get married and have kids like everybody else!?
