RoadWhy does FOX News have more power than any progressive in the country? "The idea is that Fox News is more important than any progressive leader or commentator (or even the majority opinion of progressives throughout the country, as evidenced by polls) because liberals have nowhere to go. So, that's why you can abuse them, ignore them and even treat them with disdain -- and they'll still vote for you. What are they going to do -- vote for Republicans?"

Vanderpool RoadVictory Fund never offered money to Kentucky candidate Matthew Vanderpool: "This is a fairly clever stunt, but look closer and you realize how silly and disingenuous the whole thing is. The Victory Fund doesn't offer its endorsement to anyone who doesn't ask for it, and it was certainly never offered to Mr. Vanderpool. Our endorsement comes after a thorough examination of a candidate's viability in a given race. Given the behavior it has exhibited so far, I think I understand why this campaign probably didn't want to face the scrutiny." More dirt here.

  1. One might imagine DLB would like writing a screenplay about the Bareback Bandit, too.

  2. The only reason FOX propaganda NEWS is higher in the cable ratings (which they promote) is simple, they target only one group, the far right. If you want only one side of the story, the Republican side, then go to FOX, if you want NEWS from various sources, then go to any other NEWS organization. REAL news organizations (ie. CNN) target ALL groups, splitting viewship (ie. if you add CNN + MSNBC they beat FOX - yes I realize MSNBC is a strong leaning left).

  3. Please note that the FWPD recruitment message is encouraging since we had a bunch of fundies raising hell at the mayor last week about the liaison position. They claimed they just found out when it's been news for months. Glad the city isn't backing down to the bible banging nutjobs we have here.

  4. **** BROKEN LINK ****

The "Why does FOX News have more power than any progressive in the country?" link is broken. Please fix!

  5. CB, that's true most of the time (that the other networks split viewership). Rarely, however, FOX has beaten all of the other networks *combined*. Whether anyone likes it or not, FOX is not going away anytime soon.

  6. Is "Matthew Vanderpool" really a male?

  7. Thanks for fixing the link! :)

  8. Nowhere to turn?
Olbermann and Maddow not progressive enough for them? Never heard of MSNBC?

  9. Because most liberals I know don't like having the news spoonfed to them. Part of being liberal means being open to new ideas. That means most of us prefer to get our news from a variety of sources, even those that might challenge our current way of thinking.

Conservatives just want to hear they're right, no matter the subject. Fox is very good at divining what the hard right is thinking and repeating it ad nauseam.

  10. The DListed story on Ryan Seacrest cuts like a razor while being hilarious. This 22 year old ditz decides the 12 year age senior boyfriend who she thought gay before is just hunky dory now that he's signed a 45 million dollar contract. You go, young beard. Prove what a heterosexual he is before marriage by insisting he not demand a pre-nup. You should get half if his eye wanders, girlfriend.

  11. Re Fox News and progressives:

Actually yes, if you live in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire or Vermont you can and should vote Republican in 2010. In the free states, LGBT people do have somewhere to go, and that's why it's important to make Democrats realize there's a price to pay for spitting on the base.

  12. Who does Ryan Seacrest think he is kidding? He is as gay as Paul Lynde was, and just as noticable. It's not "metrosexuality", it's called "gay", plain and simple. Own up buddy...all of us have!

  13. Andy, why so much luv for DLB? ;-)

  14. Those a compelling analyses, Dan & CB. From the economist to the new yorker...the weekly standard to the nation.

I think, however, that if you look at the average age of a fox news watcher--which I think is like 65, though I could be wrong--and people who are willing and AVAILABLE to answer over the phone opinion polls (and more likely to own a landline, too)...that the results are a bit misleading. America is undergoing a pretty radical demographic shift concerning age and "outlook," and fox will ultimately be on the losing side of the outcome if they continue to cater to an increasingly small portion of the population.

  15. Some of us still think Seacrest is gay. And pathetic.

  16. "Actually yes, if you live in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire or Vermont you can and should vote Republican in 2010."

Really? If the Repub candidates in MA, CT, and NH are anything like they are in VT (clueless idiots), then the only reason to vote for them would be to throw away good, pro-gay candidates and replace them with lousy, anti-gay candidates.

  17. Note to Julianne Hough - trust your first instinct. You'll be amazed the the accuracy of a woman's intuition.

    Posted by: ChrisM | Jul 23, 2010 11:35:44 AM

  18. It's a shame Merv Griffin isn't still here to tell the truth about his former boy-toy. Seacrest is a disgrace.
