Now why on Earth would I WANT to watch that?

Must be a PROUD NRA member!

Why are some people surprised by stuff like this? I'm only surprised it doesn't happen more often. Apparently the man's wife lost her job at this agency. Who knows what was going on behind the scenes. Economic conditions are not improving, and more and more people are getting frustrated and desperate. We are not living through a recession, it's a depression that's been softened by massive government intervention. But this can't last and it's already winding down.

"This is just awful...horrible. Okay now let's watch it in slow motion. Oh so terrible. Now from another angle in close-up."
Thanks for the porn CNN.

Way to go, Ginger!

Nobody was hurt? He fatally shot himself!

I don't come to Towleroad for this kind of news. It has received more than ample covereage in all media, and I don't see that it is especially relevant to anything gay.

A picture of a few ants on a crucifix causes national crisis and immediate outrage and action, almost daily atrocities involving guns- perfectly acceptable.

Gun control. Why are people surprised that lunatics kill people when you have no gun control?. As a foreigner living in the states i have never understood why people want people to run around with guns. Guns kill people. End of story.

Paul,
The United States Constitution has enshrined in it the right of the average citizen to bear arms. This partially stems from the fact America as an independent nation was created out of a bloody revolt and revolution against it's colonial masters. The colonists were able to fight because they had weapons to fight with. The original framers of the constitution knew all governments have the potential to turn totalitarian and abuse it's citizens, and that the right of the average citizen to own firearms was an obstacle to this.
The U.S. is also a geographically huge and even today underpopulated nation compared to by comparison much smaller and congested European nation states [Russia excluded]. Over a period of centuries a need to have a high level of self-reliance and the ability to protect oneself on the frontiers has evolved into a culture where firearms are an accepted and normal part of life. There are many places in the U.S. that are not similar to living in a cramped, urban/suburban western European nation, and the lifestyle is different, for obvious reasons.
Many people in America also hunt, and I would imagine the number is considerably higher proportionately and numerically compared to, for example, western Europe. There are vast rural stretches and areas in the U.S. more-so compared to, for example, western Europe.
Finally, what is wrong or evil to allow a citizen to own a firearm? Contrary to common non-U.S. [especially European] misconceptions, firearms are in-fact highly regulated in the U.S. And people who LEGALLY own firearms, as a rule, aren't the problem with gun violence. It's ILLEGAL handguns and firearms. The problem is thugs, criminals and crazy people don't generally follow rules or the law.

@KMC - Not at all. If this lunatic had been a member of the NRA he wouldn't have missed.

Interesting. The gunman was apparently a big fan of Media Matters, a LEFTWING organization set-up to counter-act conservative/rightwing 'propaganda'.

@Tim. This is Andy's site and he can post whatever he finds interesting. The astronomical stuff isn't particularly gay either.

I've seen episodes of "Law & Order" that were way more intense than this. A few pops from a gun on tape? Yawn.

I agree with Dastius; go Ginger!

@Tim Not everything has to be about gay. I assume you are a single issue voter as well.
Loved ol' Ginger! Get ya a gun sista and you'd ended it. Don't think she could have brought the gun into a school though so may not have helped...
