Lady Gaga Releases Lyrics to Her LGBT Anthem 'Born This Way', Sings to Ellen DeGeneres

Gaga_ellen

Late this afternoon, Lady Gaga tweeted the lyrics to her track "Born This Way" which has been billed as an LGBT anthem, and is getting more attention pre-release than any song in recent memory.

Says Gaga in the lyrics:

NO MATTER GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI,
LESBIAN, TRANSGENDERED LIFE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO SURVIVE

On Twitter, Gaga asked her little monsters to use the hashtag #bornthiswaylyrics and it was the #1 trending topic in 20 minutes.

She also sang 'Happy Birthday' to Ellen DeGeneres and promised to sing the song on her show.

Watch Ellen, and read the lyrics, AFTER THE JUMP...

'BORN THIS WAY' lyrics

INTRO:
It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'cause you were Born This Way, Baby

VERSE:
MY MAMA TOLD ME WHEN I WAS YOUNG
WE ARE ALL BORN SUPERSTARS

SHE ROLLED MY HAIR AND PUT MY LIPSTICK ON
IN THE GLASS OF HER BOUDOIR

"THERE'S NOTHIN WRONG WITH LOVIN WHO YOU ARE"
SHE SAID, "'CAUSE HE MADE YOU PERFECT, BABE"

"SO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP GIRL AND YOU'LL GO FAR,
LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY"

CHORUS:
I'M BEAUTIFUL IN MY WAY
'CAUSE GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

DON'T HIDE YOURSELF IN REGRET
JUST LOVE YOURSELF AND YOU'RE SET
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

POST-CHORUS:
OOO THERE AIN'T NO OTHER WAY
BABY I WAS BORN THIS WAY
BABY I WAS BORN THIS WAY
OOO THERE AIN'T NO OTHER WAY
BABY I WAS BORN-
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE!

VERSE:
GIVE YOURSELF PRUDENCE
AND LOVE YOUR FRIENDS
SUBWAY KID, REJOICE YOUR TRUTH

IN THE RELIGION OF THE INSECURE
I MUST BE MYSELF, RESPECT MY YOUTH

A DIFFERENT LOVER IS NOT A SIN
BELIEVE CAPITAL H-I-M (HEY HEY HEY)
I LOVE MY LIFE I LOVE THIS RECORD AND
MI AMORE VOLE FE YAH (LOVE NEEDS FAITH)

REPEAT CHORUS + POST-CHORUS

BRIDGE:

DON'T BE A DRAG, JUST BE A QUEEN
WHETHER YOU'RE BROKE OR EVERGREEN
YOU'RE BLACK, WHITE, BEIGE, CHOLA DESCENT
YOU'RE LEBANESE, YOU'RE ORIENT
WHETHER LIFE'S DISABILITIES
LEFT YOU OUTCAST, BULLIED, OR TEASED
REJOICE AND LOVE YOURSELF TODAY
'CAUSE BABY YOU WERE BORN THIS WAY

NO MATTER GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI,
LESBIAN, TRANSGENDERED LIFE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO SURVIVE
NO MATTER BLACK, WHITE OR BEIGE
CHOLA OR ORIENT MADE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO BE BRAVE

  1. Don't be fooled by Lady Gaga. Her image is the direct result of a cynical marketing strategy devised by her record company. This strategy is designed to promote girl-girl as "hot" but not guy-guy.

If you look at her video for Just Dance, for instance, you will see that it has been cleverly edited to remove any suggestion of male-male intimacy. Female-female, on the other hand, is permitted. Lady Gaga said in her early interviews that only her stage act would contain guy-guy whereas her "short films" (videos) would contain girl-girl.

If she were genuinely pro-gay, she would not have refrained from putting guy-guy intimacy in her earlier music videos. Consider that it took her 5 videos to put any guy-guy intimacy in her videos (Alejandro) but even then it was hidden in dark shadows and presented in a highly stylized fashion.

I know it might upset those who view her as a vanguard but think about this other salient point: why isn't there a male Lady Gaga? Why isn't a male singer allowed to use his homosexuality or bisexuality in his marketing?

We're dealing with a woman here who claims to be gay-friendly for the purpose of making money. We're also dealing with a woman who has exploited the double standard in the music industry which allows a female performer to use lesbianism (fake or otherwise) as a marketing strategy, a strategy that is not available to male performers who are genuinely gay or bi.

  2. Gaga puts out a good club hit, I'll admit but she's calculating. You can see it in all of her actions. She saw what made Madonna, Britney, and other divas before her money. So she mixed up Grace Jones and Madonna circa 1992 and--voila! Gaga.

Oh, and she's about as "bi" as Anna Paquin. Both have only been seen in LTRs with the opposite sex. Has everyone on here who went fishing in high school claimed their bisexuality? No. Because you are your preference.

She is yet another female who claims bisexuality because there is no stigma on females who are bi. When straight men do it, then I believe they're "bi"--well, if anyone other than Tom Hardy did it.

  3. Why do I come to this site? It's like sitting with the retarded kids at lunch.

  4. It's pretty sad that the majority of the comments here are clearly delusional.

I wish she hadn't used "Orient" or the trite lie line "god makes no mistakes," but claims that she's got a secret agenda and doesn't care about gays are insane---and completely unsupported by everything she's ever said or done.

  5. The only objection I have to this song is that it's not very good.

  7. I'll try again.... The only objection I have to the song is that it's not very good at all; rather banal and, even, a bit silly.

  8. Lady Ga-garbage go back to your history books...Carl Bean did it and your remake sucks! This is just more evidence that there is no "gay community", the racial lines amongst gays is no different than in the larger community. If not, then folks, including the author of this blog, would have stated at some point that Carl Bean(a man of color) had a song by the very same name years ago, when Gag-arbage was young and ugly.

  9. As a gay man, I read these lyrics, saw a picture of Lady Gaga, and suddenly wish Jared Laugher could be released and use this filty b***h as his next target.

  10. This song is racist--I wrote an article about it:

  11. As an Asian and Gay male, I am offended by these lyrics. I'm even more offended that a site like this actually praises Gaga as if she was the Messiah. She is a talentless phony. But now, after reading the lyrics to the song, she is a biggot as well.

  12. This is no anthem for Queer Atheists (most of us). I'm sure it will be catchy and will inspire confidence in some and quell hatred in others, but seriously, do not preach your bronze age superstition at me on the dance floor.
Screw Elton John (yet again!) for promising me a new gay anthem.
