Watch: NOM Attacks Obama, Launches 'Defend DOMA' Website

Nomdefenddoma

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today launched an evil new website in support of the Defense of Marriage Act, called DefendDOMA.com. Check out their site here.

Says NOM in a new clip: "After swearing on a Bible to uphold the law and defend our Constitution, he's made a shocking move: he unilaterally decided to no longer defend our country's Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, which is the federal law that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

  1. Why can't these idiots discern the difference between upholding a law and defending it in court?

  2. Yes, defend marriage by deporting the foreign-born half of a legally married same-sex couple. NOM is deranged.

  3. HBO doc on the Triangle Fire? American Experience on PBS just broadcast one 2 weeks ago! (I know because I worked on it)

  4. He can't defend an uncontitutional law. And even if he were to defend it, the law is anti-American and you would have anull the Declaration of Independence before you could try to enforce DOMA. Of course, all laws would be nullified at that point. NOM has no ground to stand on trying to force anti-American laws like DOMA on anyone.

  5. NOM's ads are hilariously bad. Is anyone actually convinced by them?

  6. It's easy to be snarky, but these people are dangerous.

You can dispute their assertions as silly, but these campaigns are also big money-makers for Gagme Mallagher & all the rest of her vitriolic gang of discriminators.

Make fun, but watch 'yer back.

  7. So if Congress passed a law that everyone involved in NOM was to be rounded up and executed, would they be angry if that law wasn't defended? It would be the law of the land if Congress passed it, right? But, of course, even that simple logic is lost on these people and their followers.

  8. I have a solution... do as I did and go to the NOM site and type in your own letter (it allows you to completely customize it) and trash DOMA in your message... that way the Reps that they are trying to influence will hear from us as well... here's my letter I sent:

"I absolutely believe that DOMA needs to be struck down, once and for all… this embarrassment should be deleted from our nation's memory, to give us the opportunity to start again as people with heart, compassion and inclusive love, not the hate, spite and negativity we are breeding by pandering to the proponents of DOMA.

I do NOT agree with those narrow and bitter individuals who believe that marriage is reserved for heterosexual couples. Gay people are taxpayers and law-abiding, patriotic Citizens of this Country, and as such should be respected equally under the law.

The notion that certain rights are for 'some' Americans to the exclusion of others flies in the face of everything that this Country was stands for. Those that insist on pushing for DOMA and bigotry to be enshrined in our laws and Constitution, blacken and besmirch the very heart and essence of our Country, and should hang their heads in bitter shame for their actions.

NOM claims that the rights of Americans are being trampled by allowing gay people to marry… really? No-one is telling these spiteful people that they may not marry a person of the opposite sex, yet they say gay people may not marry someone of the same sex. Now you tell me, sirs, who is taking rights away from whom?

You cannot but in your heart of hearts agree that gay people should be granted equality under the law, and Marriage Equality should be made the law of the land. You have it in your power to stop the hate, stop the bigotry, stop the discrimination… if you fail to do so, you will in fact be remembered as one of those who spread hate, bigotry and discrimination. Is that really the side of the law and history that you want to be remembered on?

Maggie Gallagher and NOM talk about honor, yet they have none of their own, in their treatment of gay Citizens of this great Country… discrimination against one is discrimination against all. Our Country stopped discrimination a long time ago. It's time the bigots did too.

In NO WAY should DOMA be defended at all! Strike it down!"

  9. NOM misrepresents what the Presidential oath says, it says nothing about "upholding the law" it only says "will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution", therefore if a law is clearly unconstitutional, as DOMA is, it is the duty of the President to refuse to defend it. The Presidents job is to defend the Constitution, NOT laws passed by Congress. We need to make sure more people understand this and not let NOM get away with their lies.

  10. Some more stock photos from the NOM (No On Marriages they don't like) organization. I guess Obama needs to defend marriage between one man and one woman (and another woman, and another woman, etc.) like Newt does. Oh right, Obama married only one woman. Oh well. NOM doesn't need to be truthful when they have a storeroom full of lies and money from Catholic and Mormon leadership to burn.

  11. The NOM sites should be hacked and brought down.
