Former Marc Jacobs Exec Sues Company, Claims Sexual Harassment, Discrimination

Marc Jacobs International's former CFO and COO is suing the company from which he was fired:

Duffy[President Robert] Duffy (pictured), who's Jacobs' longtime business partner, "uses company funds for personal expenses and does not censor what he does or says," former chief operating officer Patrice Lataillade says in his suit, which charges Duffy with having created a "discriminatory environment" at the company.

"Examples of Duffy's conduct which created a hostile work environment include his displaying gay pornography in the office and requiring employees to look at it; his production and dissemination of a book which includes photos of MJI staff in sexual positions or nude; [and] his requirement that an MJI store employee perform a pole dance for him," the suit says.

Lataillade said he stood up to Duffy's underlings, and was fired from his $1 million-a-year job in retaliation.

In a statement, the company blasted the allegations as "false," and that Lataillade was canned "for serious matters unrelated to the allegations contained in the complaint."

  1. Umm, how did he get staff to pose in sexual positions or nude and be photographed? If true, that's clearly terrible judgment on both sides.

I would also expect a Marc Jacobs executive advertising the brand to be photographed wearing a shirt that was at least mildly flattering. After a certain age men (and women) shouldn't wear super-tight clothing.

  2. That looks very much like the photo was taken in front of their Provincetown store, so maybe it's a "vacation" photo (rather than one intended to be used for any sort of promotional or "official" purpose???

    Just speculating.)

  3. Nothing is too trivial to escape the criticism of clueless nitwits.

  4. This one will never get to court. Either they'll reach some confidential agreement prior to a hearing or the court will dismiss the case as without merit. Stranger things have happened but employees who make millions don't wait until their are fired to file a sexual harassment lawsuit. People at the bottom rung of the ladder might try to survive in a hostile environment (because they need the job) but those at the top aren't going to tolerate that type of situation because they don't have to. Sounds like sour grapes (or a relationship gone bad) more than anything else.
