Lady Gaga Dissolves Deal with Target: Report

Lady Gaga has dissolved her deal with Target, MetroWeekly reports:

Bornthisway Bob Witeck of Witeck-Combs Communications was familiar with the dissolved deal and told Metro Weekly, "Despite the expectation that this was all unfolding as a deal, it has been in a sensitive stage of continued discussion for probably the last three weeks."

He added, "Quite a few people, even early on, were afraid it was going to dissolve."

In February, talking to Billboard about the deal, Gaga had said, "[O]ur relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those groups." Target had faced criticism in 2010 for donations the company made to groups supporting candidates who oppose LGBT equality.

Of today's announcement, Witeck said, "They wanted to make it public now. They decided it was important that people know there is no deal."

  1. And Brad you're entitled to being a whore.

    P.S. Where's Natira/Nutira/or whatever her/his moniker is?

  2. LOL for all you who fall for this publicity stunt. That's all it is. Lady Caca knew--right from the beginning--about Target. This was planned all along just so people could say, "Lady Gaga, you are such a gay rights activist!"

  3. Josh - you can say what you want - no matter how childishly - but whether the agreement and then withdrawal was planned from the start - any performer - ANY PERFORMER - who is willing to take on a major international corporation over their political stance on gay rights - is braver and bolder than anyone who has ever lived in the White House or served as a Member of Congress - she is a God Damn Hero to take on Target in a country where cash is King and low low prices is the only right most think is worth defending.

  4. Young lady is smart -- knows what side of the bread the butter goes on. So, she's going to make $100 off us this year? Imagine if there really were a gay "community" and what we could do with all that money instead of throwing it away on slick profiteers drooling over that wallet bulging in our pants.

  5. I meant to say "So, she's going to make $100 MILLION off us this year?" obviously. My bad.

  7. I'm not convinced that Gaga gives a rat's ass about the GLBT community. She just knows that if she signed on with Target her so-called pro-gay image would be tarnished and we'd stop buying her music. Gaga's no fool, she know's who's supporting her empire – us. This woman deliberately set out to become a gay icon because she spotted a hole in the market left by Madonna. What better demographic to go after than the gays? We have a greater than average disposable income and we're very loyal to our icons. Look at the mileage Madonna got out of it? Long story short, Gaga is pandering to the GLBT community and profiting immensely from it. Integrity? Please.

  8. Yeah Josh, because you have the inside poop on whatever Gaga does and thinks. And Randy, there's not nearly enough gay men to support any kind of "empire" let alone Gaga's. You might want to try the demo of misfit teenage girls for that one. Duh.

  9. Well through the years I have bought stock from some of the biggest companies at the time I bought them and they all ended up bankrupted. Wonder if I should buy Target stock?

  10. Good for LGG.
However, after clicking back to this site's main link what do I find? A banner ad for several stores including TARGET!

    Are you kidding me?

  11. Considering she made 68 million or so last year, not a big sacrifice really. But still at least she did the right thing.

  13. I have to agree.

There seems to be alot of angry, overly critical people here. Noone seems to be able to do anything right for you. I am SO tired of it. Quit your bitching!!

Whether you agree that Gaga is the best spokesperson or not, at least she is bringing visibilty to the issue. At this point do you seriously think she is pandering to the gay community for support? Alot of people compare her to Madonna on this and I'd have to say she's been pretty consistent (granted it's only been 2+ years of fame but...whatever). Certainly she's more vocal than Madonna EVER was, and there is an entire generation of kids that idolize her. Like her or not, she has the power to change attitudes. You should be grateful that she is in our corner.

Have some class. Say thank you for the exposure and run with it instead of pissing on everyone that didn't get YOUR message across properly. Use all that pent up energy for good and make the world a better place.

  16. She hasn't finished any deal with Target –by the way, I am gay and I don’t have any issues and HIV positive so when I do groups they give me Target cards, I love it- TODAY April 5-2011. That woman may have serious reality problems as she was saying that she comes from a blue collar family when indeed she went to a very posh Catholic school, And her music is not better than any *cough* Adele
