White House to Hold Anti-Bullying Conference Next Week

The White House is set to convene a meeting on bullying next week, according to a statement:

Whitehouse "On Thursday, March 10, President Obama, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services will welcome students, parents, teachers and others to The White House for a Conference on Bullying Prevention.  The conference will bring together communities from across the nation who have been affected by bullying as well as those who are taking action to address it.  Participants will have the opportunity to talk with the President and representatives from the highest levels of his Administration about how all communities can work together to prevent bullying."

Said Domestic Policy Advisor Melody Barnes "Participants will have the opportunity to speak with the president and representatives from the highest levels of the administration about bullying as well as ways to take action to address it in their community."

Equality Matters President Richard Socarides praised the White House's announcement: "I applaud the president's decision to convene a White House conference on school bullying. As someone who coordinated similar efforts when I was on the White House staff of President Clinton, I know that these important sessions help shine a national spotlight on important issues of the day and can make a difference in policymaking and public opinion. We look forward to it."
