  1. Get out of its way. Scary.

  2. Do you suppose that God is unleashing His wrath on the Bible belt to smite them for their unending bigotry and intolerance offered in His name?

  3. What kind of crazy person drives straight at a tornado and falling power lines?

  4. Yes it is clear to the casual observer that divine punishment is being delivered. When these people repent of their hate and wickedness toward God's children they will be spared. Hosting a Big Ol' Gay Pride Parade Southern Style should do it.

  5. You guys really need to effing STOP with all of this hatred! You're just as bad as they are!! Nearly 250 people are dead! What is WRONG with you??!!

  6. @AJ Such is the wrath of God.

    Posted by: jamal49 | Apr 28, 2011 2:56:46 PM

  7. It's just a bit of sarcasm AJ. Bible belt nut jobs would be saying the same thing about a disaster that didn't affect them.

  8. @BradK

If so, this isn't anything very new, special or particular. God tries to destroy the Bible Belt every year about this time. It's called "spring."

  9. its sad that 250 people died, but I thought the exact same thing this morning. If this was an earthquake or tsuanmi hitting San Francisco, you can be sure that they'd be saying it was condemning the gays and their lifestyle. God doesn't pick favourites.

  10. I have to agree with TBETH. It's sorta like living in a tent revival with a bunch of snake charmers...but we still live here.

  11. I have stated this before and will say it again. The comments on here disparaging Southerners and Christians are patently offensive. They are no different from offensive statements made about gay people as a group. If you live somewhere free of intolerance and ignorance, then bully for you. But you may want to take a closer look.

Most importantly, how about trying to be the change you seek? If you feel the need to say something about this kind of thing, how about dialing 1-800-RED-CROSS. and asking, "What can I do to help?"

  12. Agreed. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

  13. oh relax, a little sarcasm never hurt anyone. It's used to point out ridiculousness, and sorry - but there's no other time for it but when a disaster strikes the areas where live SOME people who would say the same things, but with a straight face, were the wrath on the other foot.

The difference is, most of those people - yes, stereotypically from the South - would be saying it with glee that the heathens had been killed, whereas nothing in the sarcasm I've read in this thread betrays anything but a sense of humor - and certainly does not negate any actual horror felt at the death toll and terrible destruction.

  14. As a gay man, a Southerner, and a politically active liberal, I just need to say that I am SICK of reading comment threads here and elsewhere that belittle and politicize this tragic event. People have died. NOW IS NOT THE TIME! Please show some of the compassion you so frequently accuse these people of lacking.

  15. The queens screaming here that these twisters are evidence of God's judgment against the bible belt are the exact mirror image of what and who they hate.

  16. I realize that society has been drastically dumbed down, but come on, look up sarcasm in the online dictionary and try to understand what it means. As for the storm chasers, I'm not sure if showing these clips is such a good idea. People need to have fear of these storms and take proper precautions.

  17. Wow. Some people apparently don't understand sarcasm? Get a sense of humor people.

  18. "Only storm chasers would understand why Andy Gabrielson is driving toward the twister, but this clip of it crossing the road is undeniably riveting."

Which begs the question, "Why did the tornado cross the road?"

  19. I don't really see anything funny about a bunch of people getting their lives destroyed, I guess. Sarcastic ridicule is the cheapest kind of humor, and using it doesn't get you a pass.

    Posted by: Xtab | Apr 28, 2011 9:01:27 PM

  20. And since someone suggested it, I looked up sarcasm in the dictionary and got:

    --
"a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain"

"mocking, contemptuous, or ironic language intended to convey scorn or insult"
    --

So yes, let's insult these people some more. Not like any of the more than 295 dead (at last counting) are gay, or deserve not to have their lives ended and families and property destroyed, for that matter. Have a moral conscience and some freaking dignity. Jesus.

  21. That was sarcasm, BTW.

  22. Man, this is some awesome video. That thing just goes through the trees and knocks em' right down like nothing. Looks like only some form of high-pressure burst of air could stop that thing. Get on top of that, Pentagon! You got the cash!

    Posted by: Drew | Apr 28, 2011 10:33:29 PM

  23. Well, I certainly hope the Tea Party jumps in and helps these poor people instead of the evil socialist federal government.

    Posted by: phineas | Apr 29, 2011 1:10:07 AM

  24. What I dont understand is that if this happens everyyear, why the hell do these people still live in flimsytrailers or wooden houses that blow away just like that. Why not live in big concrete bunkers for all i care, anything to not have to rebuild your house every couple of years

    Posted by: Snownova | Apr 29, 2011 1:15:08 AM

  25. You can stop clutching your pearls - nobody is insulting the dead. They're insulting the kind of idiots who believe that natural disasters are some sort of judgment from god, and say as much every single time an earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster befalls a region not dominated by the Talibaptists.
