Tornado_okc

A snapped telegraph pole becomes a flying cross as a dangerous tornado approaches, and then bears down on a storm chaser outside Oklahoma City in footage shot last night.

Watch the frightening coverage from KFOR-TV, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Sometimes I wonder if these videos do more harm than good by making people less afraid and less likely to seek shelter.

  4. The shocking thing about the 2nd one is the speed at which this goes from small to HUGE in a matter of minutes.

  5. *Telegraph* pole? And the Pony Express stable is next door to the stagecoach office.

(It's an electrical power pole, even in Oklahoma.)

  6. Weirding Weather---I can't tell you what the weather will be in your area but expect more dramatic weather events (like these) across the world.

  7. Wow! That IS terrifying!!!

  8. Actually, the pole is not flying either. In higher-res versions of the video, you can definitely see that it's still suspended by the power cables attached to it. :)

  9. David Payne is well-known around here as something of a drama queen and clown, but is a great storm chaser. The tornado above was VERY fast moving and kept wobbling back and forth and with our rural roads around here, it can be easy to get stuck in the path of a tornado with no where to go (which is what happened here). Most Okies aren't stupid enough to stand out and watch a tornado, those idiots are usually transplants or competitors for the Darwin Award.

  10. As a side note, the above tornado destroyed large sections of heavily populated areas, yet unlike Joplin and Tuscaloosa, we have less than 20 confirmed storm related deaths. Okies have experience where other states don't.

  11. Is it coincidental or am I mistaken when I say that the bulk of these natural disasters occur in almost always red states with antigay legislation on the books? The right wing religious nutjobs blame gays for everything including inclement weather. Though I'm an atheist, I wonder if their God is punishing the unchristian religious bigots for their hatred and intolerance? Does it never occur to them that they're wrong?

  12. LOL @ Anastasia Beaverhausen...

I wondered about that "telegraph" part myself...

  13. @ Robert - Thinking (rationalizing) like they do, even if its in the converse, still has the effect of giving credence to their beliefs and should be avoided.
