NFL Player Donté Stallworth Tweets Against Anti-Gay Hate, in Favor of Marriage Equality

Stallworth

Great to see statements of support from more pro sports figures, like these tweets from Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Donté Stallworth. His teammate Brendan Ayanbadejo is a big supporter as well.

  1. Twitter confuses me. Can some young whippersnapper explain this to me... is he talking to Wanda Sykes? Or is he quoting something she said? I'm pretty sure Wanda Sykes supports gay marriage.

Also, LMBO? Laughing My Boobs Off?

Anyways, good on Donte. It's been a good week in sports.

  2. He's quoting Wanda Sykes. If he was talking to her he'd use the @ symbol.

LMBO=laughing my butt off. I prefer your version though!

  3. Good on you, Donte. This was nice to see.

  4. He's quoting Wanda Sikes. You use the @(followed by the twitter name) when you're talking to someone, like he did in the tweet second from the top. And just a guess, but I think it's Laughing My Butt Off. If that's his kid in the picture, I'm guessing he tries not to swear publicly, even in acronym form.

Anyway, all of this support in such unexpected places is wonderful. Here's hoping for even more support to come from other pro-sports figures.

  5. He didn't re-tweet Michael Oher, so I wonder what Oher said that made him laugh his butt off....

  6. pretty amazing to be getting so much support from the sports community lately

never thought they would be the ones taking the lead at this juncture in the road, but great to read about this sort of thing

meanwhile Hollywood is busy inventing new ways to keeps actors closeted - strange but true

  7. cool

  8. NEVERSTOPS

I hear but you are talking about such a different industry.

People LOVE sports and would rather the team they love win, then lose. In the UK, it was typical to have fans beat up on a black guy and then realize he was a football player, then apologize and say ' oh, sorry mate. We thought you were just another black guy'-true story.

With Hollywood, it's about perception and ideals. The man you want or hope to marry. You also have studios, publicists and people on the team-others actors etc-who all benefit from you being closeted.

It's very corrupt in Hollywood because so many of those men are gay. Shockingly so.

  9. It seems sports people are now more open-minded than Hollywood people. I've always thought that Hollywood is homophobic. They should replace the Hollywood sign with one that says Homophobia.

  10. What he has to tweet is about killing people while drunk,on drugs and running a red light like he did in Miami Beach March 14,2009 at 7:00 AM when he ran over Mario Reyes that has just finish a hard work day and was going to get the bus to go home to his wife and daughter.Oh,and better getting away with it.I mean no sentence but a slap in the hand. And why?.Because he is BLACK,RICH and a FOOTBALL PLAYER.Disgusting.

  11. @OSCAR IN MIAMI BEACH,

    +1

MIAMI -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth took full responsibility for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida and began serving a 30-day jail sentence Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4262751

    ========================

Yeah, what a guy. This a**wipe was driving his BENTLEY drunk and killed Mr. Reyes who was on his way home to his wife and daughter after working overnight as a crane operator. The POS got 30 days for DUI manslaughter. Justice indeed. Now he's tweeting about God and gay marriage.

Jocks in HS and college are treated like Gods. MANY get away with murder [metaphorically speaking, sometimes literally though.] And it carries over into the so-called real world also. Maybe one day all the 'jock sniffers' will grow the F up and stop treating a game and men [and women] playing a game like they were Gods. And stop paying outrageous sums of $ to watch multimillionaire jocks [and team owners] throw a effing ball around, or toss one through a hoop. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

And I like sports and am a sports fan. But unlike MANY people, I recognize the obscenity of the whole HS, college, 'amateur', and pro sports industry.

  12. So Oscare you really think he got off because ?.Because he is BLACK,RICH and a FOOTBALL PLAYER.Disgusting.

Then what are the cuban's excuse for all the drugs in Miami?

I see the gay racists comes in all colors. Don't get pulled over and asked for your papers queen.
