Obama, Seth Meyers a Hit At The White House Correspondents' Dinner

Whdinner
The White House Correspondents dinner is one of my favorite political events and this year's affair wasn't a letdown. Seth Meyers, who spent 20 minutes skewering the likes of the president, The Tea Party, Juan Williams and an unamused Donald Trump, was so more impressive than most of his "Weekend Update" segments on Saturday Night Live. President Obama also managed to deliver some gems.

Some of the best jokes of the day:

Seth Meyers: "Donald Trump has been saying that he will run for president as a Republican, which is surprising since I just assumed he was running as a joke." Trump was not amused.

Lionking President Obama: "Donald Trump is here tonight ... Now, I know that he's taken some flak lately but no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than the Donald. And that's because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like, 'Did we fake the moon landing?' 'What really happened on Roswell?' And 'Where are Biggie and Tupac?'"

President Obama: "Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw The Adjustment Bureau so ... right back at ya, buddy!"

President Obama about Michele Bachmann's run for the presidency: "I hear she was born in Canada. Yes, Michele, this is how it starts."

Seth Meyers: "John Hamm looks the way every Republican thinks they look. Zach Galifianakis looks the way Republicans thinks every Democrat looks."

One of the funniest moments came when Obama played what he joked was his "birth video" filmed on August 4, 1961. The footage that followed was a clip from the movie The Lion King which featured the birth of Simba alongside his Kenyan Lion King father. Obama added afterward: "I want to make clear to the Fox News table, that was a joke. That was not my real birth video."

ABC News asked attendee Jane Lynch if she's bothered by the fact that Obama opposes gay marriage: "Lynch said she thinks that President Obama, like all politicians, says what he needs to say, but she thinks that deep down the President does not mind that she's married to a woman."

Politco has a slideshow of red carpet arrivals, including those of attendees Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Barney Frank.

  2. What's that thing on Trump's head? It's looking more and more like a well-groomed ferret.

  3. Obama is always funny. He has good writers and he has a genuine sense of humor so it's not that much of a stretch.

Funny crowd but then they are all with WEA, rahm's brothers agency.

And ABC news, do you believe in gay marriage? What have YOU done to push it forward?

The media love using the gays for some digs at the president so they can be like ' wahhhhh' he doesn't believe in gay marriage so it means he HATES you.

Well said lynch. You're a smart broad who has been in the game too long to not 'get it'. Thanks for being a voice of reason as always.

  4. It's not ABC News Department job to push for gay marriage THAT'S THE PRESIDENT'S JOB. I love that we now say 'well his policies wish me death, but in the bedroom he really really loves me.'

If we take Lynch at her point of view...Obama will do whatever it takes, aside from doing the right thing, to get elected. I want leadership, not jokes.

  5. The best part: Trump not laughing.

  6. That's the only thing that has come out of Jane Lynch's mouth that I didn't like.

  8. Loved the way Barack and Seth screwed dumb-ass Donald.

  9. Trump deserved all of it. He should attempt to run for a seat on the recycling committee or ANY office before President. He was forced to sit while his ego was put in its place. Deservedly so. He is a homophobe that has the nerve to disguise hate as old fashioned ideals while calling it being a "traditionalist." It is hate. It is a tired repuglycant slogan and Trump is a fool. Banish him to Palm Beach and let's move forward.

  10. However, I am not voting for a democrat either until my rights are enforced in the courts BEFORE election day. I have not made that mistake since Reagan and Mondale. I have a clear conscience. I have ideals too. Just like Obama who nodded that his ideals are too lofty. That is the same as saying gay people are staying under the bus.

  11. As Sterling Archer would say: "This is my foot on your face; smell the embarrassment!"

And the smell from The Donald Duck is quite strong.
