Regarding the last item on the tax on his partner's benefits: First, even if they could marry, they would still have the tax issue because DOMA precludes the federal govt from recognizing even valid marriages from the state's that allow them. Second, he needs to amend his returns, not his partner. The benefits were provided to him, not his partner. Just here to help. :)

  2. While I sympathize with the moral position of the gentleman in the final item, he probably should have known how the tax laws worked and examined his pay stubs for whether or not taxes were being deducted.
