Pat Robertson: Hollywood Forcing Straight Actors to Play Gay Roles
On the 700 Club, Pat Robertson speaks to conservative writer Ben Shapiro about his new book, which accuses gays of "brainwashing Hollywood," Right Wing Watch reports.
Says a confounded Robertson: “...the American people overwhelmingly vote for traditional marriage between a man and a woman, what is it with Hollywood, I mean they are inserting gays one after another, as a matter of fact straight actors are being forced to play gay roles.”
Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Robertson is a liar - straight actors are not being forced to play gay roles: actors audition for parts, and choose which parts they want to audition for. If you are a straight actor and don't want to play a gay role, simply saying, "I don't think I can do a good job of it" is a perfectly acceptable excuse (changing your mind after accepting the job isn't). Of course, if you turn down the job and have to support yourself working as a waiter on the side, well, that's how the business works.
"Hollywood" might not like it if an actor is vocally anti-gay-marriage. That isn't surprising. It is a "hot button" issue and almost half of the voters are in favor of it (the latest polls seem to suggest more than half). They don't want actors saying things that might really anger the studios' customers. It's not a "gay" thing but a marketing thing.

Mr. Robertson, it is called acting. Something you know nothing about. You could not act like a compassionate and Christ-like person if you wanted to. Now Mr. Robertson, shut your mindless trap before I create a natural disaster and send it your way. Don't forget, us gay's can control the weather.

"inserting gays one after another" . . . snicker

@John in Houston, well said.
For people like PR religious is a money maker and a cosmic cash machine. I feel sorry for people who follow these groups.

Every time Pat Robertson lies his neck gets shorter.

Pinocchio--You Know that can't be the case. Why, if that were true, his head would be coming out of his ass by now...Well, omigod, you're right!

Well, there’s not too much narcissism involved here: “…and it makes it very difficult for you to disown those values…it’s an emotional argument; it has emotional weight…”
His observation is a reflection of the modus of exhortation they use to get their own message across. The Epistles of Paul make that clear, and it wouldn’t surprise me for him to have learned and adopted that from Greek theater. There’s no exclusive franchise on the use of that any more than there is for the “Big Lie.”
Pat Robertson’s “dog & pony” is quite a circus. But his entire company appears to have gotten lost in a house of mirrors sideshow.

Did Hollywood force gay actors to play straight parts, too? Rock Hudson, Tab Hunter,Troy Donahue? Pat Robinson learned a long time ago... the more he mentioned the words abortion,homo-sexual life-style,God and now gay marriage, the more his right-wing nuts make donations to his 700 Club. He had the chutzpah to run for President on anti-gay issues. I get my biggest kick OUT of watching him when he prays,he closes his eye's shut tight, as if God can hear him better by doing so. I often wonder why one must close their eyes to pray? For us gays, Robertson is like Anita Bryant in drag!

I absolutely refuse to watch this video. Can someone tell me why BEN SHAPIRO is doing an interview with a Christianist who believes that all Jews are going to hell? Is he one of those Jews for Jesus freaks or is this just another case of the common hatred of homos bringing otherwise enemies together as allies?
Speaking of Shapiro's; funny, true story. Growing up in rural Mississippi as a child I thought "Jews" were an extinct race of people from the Bible like Philistines or Moabites. I thought my good friend and next door neighbor, Jessica Shapiro, was ITALIAN; even though looking back, they couldn't have been more Jewish if they had danced the Horah while singing Hava Nagila on their front porch every night. I remember her telling me that she was Jewish and didn't believe in Jesus as her "savior". It was shocking, but it was probably the first time that my world view had been challenged and expanded and it was the beginning of a lifetime of thinking outside the box; something not only discouraged in Mississippi but outright persecuted. After that, she and her mother introduced me to Jewish customs and traditions, including giving me the the honor of celebrating Passover with them. I was fascinated but when I told my parents (my father was a Southern Baptist pastor) they were a bit less than amused. That's when I learned that the "chosen people of God" that I had always heard about in Sunday School actually were an extinct race of people from the Bible, like the Philistines and Moabites and that the people next door were actually just dangerous, Godless heathens, like the Catholics next door to them, but without the idol worship. Yeah, I know, it was like growing up with Sarah Palin and Pat Robertson as your parents. God bless 'em. They did the best they could with the tools they were given.

I thought straight guys played gay for Oscars.

Where was Pat when the floods in the midwest and tornados in red states need to be announced as "God's wrath?" I wish the pictures of him sucking Shapiro would come out.

I can't decide whether Shapiro looks more like Curt from Glee or Brooke Shields in drag. I keep waiting for someone to burst into song.

And what makes this "queen" such an authority on what's going on in Hollywood?
And don't get me started on brainwashing. Are these people serious? Talk about the POT calling the KETTLE black!

Sweet Jesus...this man is so out of touch...who even listens to him anymore, and can someone tell me why a "progressive" TV station like ABC Family would broadcast his show? I mean, on ABC family you have every kind of representation...teen pregnancy, male rape, bisexuality, homosexuality...teen sex, drugs. ugh.

I have a big dildo with Ben Shapiro's name on it.

I really am going to miss these good laughs when Pat goes to see Jesus... of course, I won't miss the pee stains on the front of my pants!

The truth of the matter is straight actors are hogging all the good gay roles, and edging out gay actors. Gay actors are the ones being forced into the closet in order to play any role.

Forced, yea right, actors will do anything for a check. The guy knows nothing.

God, when will you take this sack of dusty old bones away so the rest of us can move out of the dark ages...?

Ben Shapiro looks like he would be right at home in some gay sit-com...
Posted by: jaragon | Jun 15, 2011 5:53:36 PM
Leave it to Pat Robertson to get it all ass backwards. It was OLD Hollywood that forced GAY actors to play STRAIGHT roles. Oy vey, Maria!
Posted by: denknee | Jun 16, 2011 1:46:42 AM
Jake Gyllenhaal is gay.
Posted by: Igor | Jun 18, 2011 7:53:05 AM
The people who formulated christianity (and I am a christian) in the 2nd century and onward were all about brainwashing. What happened to the women leader in the church the editors of the new testament air brushed them out. that was harder to do in Acts of the Apostles...there many mysteries about Jesus and his followers. But the Pat Robertsons of the world claim to know the truth....when they talk about gays you could insert the word 'wiches'. Dump this guy,
