Hate Crime Caught on Video as Mississippi Teens Hunt Down Black Man, Kill Him
A group of young, White Mississippi men look for a Black man "to mess with" and find their target in a motel parking lot where they beat and run over him with a truck. Thankfully the whole thing was caught on a surveillance camera. Profoundly sad, and more than disturbing.

I wonder if Brian is gay. I just wonder because his comments sound like the kind of crap people from the majority are always saying . . . as if those from the majority are comparably victimized by those from the minority.
But I can assure you Brian, that Towleroad has posted many-many stories involving blacks who discriminated against white gay men. But the above crime is especially heinous, and horribly reminiscent of a not-to-distant past. That is why this story was posted.
I suppose you want the black guy who was victimized by racist thugs to apologize for being black.

I think what Brian is saying is that towleroad refers to white thugs as "whites" but never to black thugs as "blacks". It appears to be a double standard in the use of words.

When I read these stories, I almost look forward to the comments more than the actual story. I get so upset at some of the comments, like Jason’s and Brian’s comments, but then it’s like the comments section just cleans itself up (thank goodness) with the wonderful comments by derrick, rico, and fenrox. We do a horrible job teaching critical thinking, and i think it might just do us in.

For Christ's sake, a man was murdered in the middle of a busy street for no other reason than because he was black, by a bunch of kids in a pickup truck who drove there for that specific purpose. Anyone who has anything to express other than abject horror and sadness has no business making any comment whatsoever.

This story has nothing to do with gay people so if the point is to make a statement against hate crimes, then Brian was entirely right to point out the hypocrisy of not including the story from the Wisconsin State Fair, which also got national attention.
And living in Philly, you know perfectly well that there have been numerous incidents of late of black gangs attacking totally innocent people in cafes and on street corners out of nothing other than racial animosity.
As usual, you and the kneejerk practitioners of White Liberal Guilt show yourselves to be as lacking in objectivity as the Religious Right and their radical allies.

I do have to agree that there is a double standard on Towleroad. There is a great deal of evidence that black-on-white violence is heading into epidemic proportions -- but that is never visible on this blog. IF Towleroad is going to cover hate crimes, then black-on-white violence must be presented, as well. But it is not.
For those of us in the reality-based community, who like to measure things, it's important to note that blacks, who represent 12% of the population, are responsible for 49.3% of the murders and non-negligent manslaughters, 55.5% of the robberies, 33.9 percent of the aggravated assaults, and 38.9% of all violent arson crimes.
Any chance we'll see any of this on Towleroad?

As far as I'm aware, the flash mob type actions in Chcago haven't directly killed anyone and there is almost always an economic element to them.
I think that the overwhelming cases of "flash mobs" around the country have not involved murder.
This does involve murder as well as racial animus.
And I can cite plenty of examples right here at towleroad of black attacks on (perceived) white gays....so please, spare me.

@ChitownKev Well, that makes all the difference, doesn't it? As long as they are only beating up innocent people and robbing them, then why make a big deal out of it? And if you think the motives of these thugs is not racial, I would just point out that they virtually never attack anyone who is black.
You people crack me up sometimes--I am, for the most part, politically progressive, but left-wing extremists are as totally out of touch with reality as right-wing extremists are and are as big a part of the problem in this country, sad to say..
