News: Maine, Katy Perry, The Situation, Bomb Plot

Asteroidbelt road Openly gay CNN reporter Don Lemon discusses his college years: "I did crazy things. I drank a lot and didn't study. I wasn't a bad kid, but I had issues, including the fact that I was gay and didn't tell people."

road This is good news: "A transgender woman who went to the Department of Motor Vehicles in San Francisco to record her sex change - and then got a letter from a DMV clerk saying homosexual acts were "an abomination that leads to hell" - will receive a $55,000 legal settlement..."

Katyperry5 road Florida teen arrested for allegedly plotting bomb attack at his school: "Police said Jared Cano, 17, planned to lay a device at Freedom High School in north Tampa and detonate it as students began the new school year. Fuel, shrapnel, plastic tubing and timing and fusing devices were found at his home, a police chief said."

road Actress Zoe Saldana says she was a "feminine tomboy:" “I had my plastic swords, my ninja stars, but I still wore lipstick."

  1. Brutus Beefcake? ROTFL!

  2. Katy Perry has 5 top singles from one album because each of those songs sound exactly like one another. If you liked one song then you'd obviously like the rest.

  3. Travesty that Katy Perry holds any musical achievements at all, but why is she not wearing her wedding ring in that pick? Is it meant to say something else, as well?

  4. How is Barron's tweet "vaguely homophobic"? It's people like you that walk around with a chip on your shoulder that reinforce negative stereotypes.

  5. the blog post about The Help was well written but since she didn't read the book nor see the movie she has some critical things wrong. She isn't entirely off base but writing about things that happen in the trailer (which is edited differently than the movie and out of context) she misses some of the points. Yes, it is a liberal-guilt feel-good-white-lady movie but the book has much more depth than that. Not to mention it was written by a white woman who lived through these situations in some respect so it IS her P.O.V. I just wish the blog author would see/read the source material before deriding it.

As for GOProud, they are a bunch of self-loathing, self-important hypocrites.

  6. PS - I am glad to see the news round-up back. I missed it yesterday.

  7. @JMAC it's homophobic b/c Chris is saying that gay men are all promiscuous and are spreading HIV and STDs in San Francisco.

  8. To even rush to defend Michele Bachmann over Nancy Pelosi deserves mockery on its face.

  9. @JMAC

You are just plain stupid if you don't see the homophobia in Barron's statement. If you wanna talk stereotypes, lets talk about you with your typical self-hating attitude.NEXT!

  10. Man, can you imagine the strain on that bed if Hulk Hogan and Beefcake really did get it on? Boom, boom, boom! (LOL)

  11. Congrats to Katy Perry's marketing team!

  12. Those GOProud people are really awful.

  13. Who cares what a benzo-addled brain like Limbaugh's wonders or thinks about ANYTHING?

    Posted by: Danny | Aug 17, 2011 5:18:40 PM

  14. Barron's about as logical as a gay republican.

    Posted by: Danny | Aug 17, 2011 5:21:09 PM

  15. Did all the guys from the Playgirl video end up doing gay porn...?

    Posted by: jaragon | Aug 17, 2011 5:30:16 PM

  16. Katy Perry has not achieved 5 genuine number 1's. Her latest - Last Friday Night - has gone to number 1 on the Hot 100 on the basis of Billboard's double-counting method, a method that has only come into use in recent years. It means that a song title is effectively double-counted if other versions - such as remixes featuring other vocalists - are released.

Sorry, towleroad, but there is no "wow" factor.

  17. Good looking people tend to be (more) selfish because people have given them breaks their whole lives, never requiring them to "put in". Like kids who grow up filthy rich. They often become annoying slackers who don't understand what it's like to actually try hard at something.

    Posted by: David R. | Aug 17, 2011 6:49:55 PM

  18. That essay on The Help is a bit misguided. Judging something without bothering to understand it about has a real tea party ring to it.

And remember, us gays are relying heavily on our straight allies to move closer to equality.

  19. somebody should tell chris barron no matter how much he defends michelle bachmann she still hates him and would like to see marched off into the camps.

    Posted by: walter | Aug 17, 2011 7:29:10 PM

  20. katy perry has a lot more in common with michael jackson than just this 'achievement." LOL

  21. Andy, I'm really surprised you posted a link to The Help story. A scathing off-base review of a movie/book that she's neither seen nor read? How the he'll is that news of any kind?

    Posted by: MrJ | Aug 17, 2011 10:29:39 PM

  22. Thank god all of you had sense re the Katy perry story. MJ is weeping as we speak!

    Sad times we live in.

  23. she may have five but let's get real: SHE IS NO MICHAEL JACKSON. her singing and dancing are only decent because of the studio editors and back-up dancers.

  24. Well, you know all the bigots will turn out come next November (see: Ohio, 2004) in North Carolina. There goes any chance the President has of winning the state.

Posted by: Rodney Wollam | Aug 18, 2011 1:37:44 PM

  25. Katy is obviously doing something right. If she's just like all those other pop starlets then why is she coming out on top? (I'd actually like to know, maybe we can get a study done)
