Transgender Worker Told to Get Off Premises of 'Family Friendly' Farmer's Market in Ontario, Canada

A transgender worker for True2You, a candle and incense vendor at Trail's End Farmer's Market in London, Ontario, was disturbing the "family friendly atmosphere" there according to the market's owner and would not be allowed back on the premises.

Trailsend True2You owner Karen Clarke tells AM890 she got a call from one of the market's managers:

"Everything was fine when I left and it wasn't until five to 8 on Saturday night that I got a call from the management at Trails End. Basically they said if I was going to have those people there anymore I'm invited to take my business elsewhere....He said it made everyone uncomfortable and it just wasn't right. This is a family place, a family market and this just isn't right. I just kept insisting what happened that was wrong and he said you walk up to the person and they're dressed like a woman and they've got big hands, a deep voice and tattoos and it's just not right. It's just not a family place he kept repeating that over and over again. And I kept trying to get from him what was wrong, what was so not right, what was it that people were complaining about and there was no details forthcoming that way. He called them 'those people' several times."

Said the market's owner Ed Kikkert: "Why would I be discriminating? I'm not discriminating at all. I'm just asking which washroom would they use? How can you go into a men's washroom dressed as a lady, how can you go into ladies washroom when you're a man. That's the difficulty I have. It's not discriminating at all. The issue is at hand."

A complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Commission has been filed.

  1. Did Canada come into the 21st Century like the rest of the world, well except for the USA who are still homophobic for the most part, and South America, n Africa, n most of Russia. But wait, theres more, joining Canada is most of Australia, and New Zealand, homophobia is ripe.

The store owner seems perfectly normal, that is filled with homophobic misunderstanding, unaware of social trends, insular from opinion, except his own, gee, he is in line with the majority so whats the issue?

Transgender people do not become female by simply wearing a dress and a wig, it takes time to become the women they beleive they are. Society could be more understanding and not discriminate, but life is what it is and trans people run the risk of upsetting a few idiots. It is part of the package. Most people move on. A few, make an issue of it and wonder why all the brew-hahah!

  2. Hey ratbastard

no offense but you clearly are a barebacking meth head so we have to worry about you. I mean I can tell from your post you are one of those "gays" and all your posts that about you just like you magically knew that a couple being a public bus with their kid and daring to walk around with the kid was a desperate attempt to get attention rather than what ANY parent does to calm a colicky baby down.

And I am sure when some gay basher go to beat your head in, you can just tell them "but I am a "normal" gay and then they will stop and just beat up those butch lesbians and trans people and let you decent gay boy continue to get AIDS, have nice meth addictions and leech off communities.

  3. I support the trans woman's right to work where she wants to.

But as far as the whole bathroom issue goes, it has nothing to do with gay people. It is ridiculous that we lost our best opportunity in a generation to protect gays and lesbians from workplace discrimination b/c gay leaders insisted on cramming "gender identity" into the proposed federal gay rights law.

We have been fighting for this protection for 40 years and in 2009-10, we had an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress and a Democratic President and favorable polls. We had everything we needed to finally get this passed but we threw it away because we had to show "solidarity" over the bizarre issue of transitioning transsexual workplace bathroom usage. Because of this insane "LGBT" nonsense, gays and lesbians in 31 states will remain unprotected from discrimination for years and maybe decades.

  4. If you read the Bible, Yes Jesus preached also to the low of the low, but never did he preach about acceptance of sin. God is loving but he also Hates sin and will never accept it as "normal". Sin is sin. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10"Or do you not know that the unrightous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be decieved: Neither the sexualy immoral, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor men who practise homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."Yes God preached to them but never would he "accept" their sin. He wanted them to turn from there sin and follow him. That is the only way to eternal life and true happiness. We are all sinners and in need of Gods forgiveness, which he gave to us by sending His Son Christ Jesus to die for all of us-This is available to all of us if we TURN away from our sins and follow him. This requires us giving up our sinful lifestyles. This means putting away sinful lusts and desires, not giving in to them. Why can't Ed Kikkert have a right to ask the three Men to dress accordingly-When they are running a booth dressed as women and are trying to get everyone to accept there sexual agenda. We don't have to accept there lifestyles as normal. I think Mr Kikkert had every right to ask them to dress accordingly to prevent causing people to feel uncomfortable? If they would have been dressed accordingly, and would have been there to sell there products, rather than there sexual agenda, I am sure there would never have been this issue.
