Even less clear is whether Hoover liked to wear women’s clothes, but Mr. Eastwood and Mr. DiCaprio decided to retain Mr. Black’s artful nod to the rumor. 'Obviously there’s a love story here,' Mr. Eastwood said. 'Whether it is a gay love story or something else — well, the audience can interpret it. My intention was to show two men who really love each other, and beyond that it’s none of my business.'"

  1. Thanks Andy for posting the article about the Texan judge abuse/beating case. Being part of community that's constantly derided and put-down, we should stick up for those innocents who are abused and neglected.

  2. Absolutely unforgivable that Uganda is rated the #1 travel destination by Lonely Planet. How can they just casually bring up the horrible homophobic calamity in the country and? How can a travel organization promote a country like this, full-well knowing their government is actively seeking to KILL gay people? Completely disgusting and shows how little the people of Lonely Planet care about their LGBT following and the gay community in general.

    Boycott Lonely Planet.

  3. As for the judge in Texas whipping and beating his disabled daughter. I really don't know what to say, other than we definitely need to let Hillary know she does have a lot of support and people out there who will make sure this animal William Adams never lays a hand on her again and pays the price for his behavior. Clearly, the at the very least, he should be removed from his position as a judge in the state of Texas. Absolutely disgusting that any parent would treat their own flesh and blood in such a manner.

  5. The writers, editors and publishers of Lonely Planet need their heads examined.
Yeah, let's give the most homophobic country in the world with their hate filled legislation to 'kill the gays',their extreme poverty and violence, their corrupt government and society our highest praise and encourage naive travelers to visit and experience this hatred, violence and intolerance first-hand AND see the Nile. WTF?
Burning all my Lonely Planet Guides tonight and will never purchase another.
Stupid and dangerous decision Lonely Planet.
Here's to hoping you go out of business real soon.

  6. Anyone who would condemn Lonely Planet for recommending travel to Uganda needs to think of who would recommend travel to the freaking United STATES at this time; just look at Towleroad, multiple horrible beatings per week, and people in power with policies just as, if not more, poisonous than there (and who are, of course, feeding it). Can you imagine how badly gays in Uganda would love to have visits, tourists, and GOOD people going there instead of American maniacs on "holy" missions with deep purses? Kudos to them.

  7. James Franco is the perfect bait to get Tennesee Williams to chat from the beyond...

  8. Ugandan Population: 35 million-17 million which are children age 14 and under.

    United States Population:311 Million.

    Nice Comparison.

GOOD people won't go where they don't feel safe. Especially gay people. Sadly Uganda never was safe for tourists and never will be. I agree that the United States is less safe as gays become more visible in society but no elected official in this country is legislating that we be killed.

If your so confident in Lonely Planet and the country of Uganda Denizon then go visit and enjoy yourself knowing your tourist dollars are funding death to gay folks everywhere.

  9. I know this is being shallow, but is it my imagination, or does Mark Salling's treasure trail end abruptly, suggesting he shaves his pubes (which is a turn off for me)?

I don't mind having to spit out pubes once in awhile. It lets me know I'm where I want to be and doing what I enjoy! It's part of what separates the men from the boys.

  10. I hate child abuse. What's sad is that as a child that judge was punished you can bet your bottom dollar with a "lean over the bed, boy!" and it just carries from one generation to the next.

If YouTube was around in my days the viewers would have just been laughing at my mom chasing me and my brother around shaking her wooden spoon. She never actually hit us with it.

  11. i don't know about this j. edgar film... eastwood just seems like he'd be the wrong person to have his hands on this film.

  12. actually, plenty good people don't feel safe in the US... and there is absolutely NO evidence or incidence of harassment of foreign gays there, unlike in many places in the US and Europe lately. it's OK, people have seen terrible news reports and haven't put two and two together – that this neo-homophobia in Uganda is an American disease, funded by American money, and perhaps can only be combatted with American tolerance and tourist dollars.

    Posted by: denizon | Nov 2, 2011 7:21:21 PM

  13. plus, if you're going to make a statement so blindly stupid as to say that tourist dollars are "funding death to gay folks" what's the point of even breathing? don't make stuff up.

gay folks are having a HORRIBLE time in the United States where daily violence is a fact of life; this crap that the US has foisted on Uganda is just that, and if you're too short-sighted or lazy to want to do your part to counter it, then fine, but condemning a nation of people to the dogs just because of the situation they're in isn't too classy.

  16. So sick of James Franco. Puke. No talent. Can't act, so he's thrown himself all over the media. Trying so hard to be a "renaissance man" or avant-garde and an enfant terrible when he's merely a terrible sycophant.
