Watch Scott Lively Get Occupied

OccupyHate
Scott Lively, the Christian fundie fellow who may or may not have helped to put Uganda's LGBT population in mortal danger, has been Occupied. Yesterday, a whole mess of LGBT folk and their allies turned up at his Springfield, MA, coffee shop (Holy Grounds) to mic check the hate away. Watch the video, AFTER THE JUMP ...

[Thanks to Joe. My. God. for sending this around this morning. Good find!]

  1. The young brunette guy with the glasses and beard in the brown sweater is cute. And the whole video was great!

  2. Kind of like call and response in Catholic Mass.

  3. Holy smoke (or should that be grounds?)! And who did Lively have at his coffee shop as a 'manager' at the beginning of this year? A convicted sex offender who did a few years jail time ... http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2011/01/pastor_of_holy_grounds_coffee.html

  4. Wow -- some serious bullying here. Guess it's OK if you disagree with or dislike the people being bullied. But gosh, wouldn't that justify *all* bullying, from the bully's point of view?

    Yea, hypocrisy!

  5. "faithless, ruthless, heartless... though they know god's decree." really...? what a hypocrite.

    hypocrisy |hiˈpäkrisē|
    noun ( pl. -sies)
the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense.

  6. @Sauce for the Goose
Really, I mean really? This man has called for gay people to be put to death and has been instrumental in the "kill the gays" pending legislation in Uganda and you call the protesters bullies?

And in this clip Lively comes out and reads a passage about how gay people should be put to death...did you even watch the clip?

  7. sauce for the goose

The paradox of tolerance is that if it tolerates the intolerant then the intolerant will kill tolerance

    Tolernace can not tolerate intolerance

brighter minds than yours have already dealt with the issue....look up Karl Popper and John Rawls

that is if you are allowed to by your xtianista and repub overlords

  8. Serious bullying? Hardly, more like "slap back."

You get slapped, then slap back twice as hard.

Much more effective than turn the other cheek.

    Also much more satisfying.

I'd like to see more of it.

  9. Scott Lively wants to see gay people executed. Look up his history. He was involved in the infamous Oregon Citizens Alliance in the early 1990s. He has a record of committing physical assault. He's a Holocaust revisionist. He's a very, very disturbed man, while unfortunately he has had some influence in Uganda. As such, he is dangerous. He is a true bad guy. Protests such as this one are of course merited and extremely important.

  10. In order for this to be bullying, Lively would have to be an innocent individual who had done nothing to anger these protesters.

@Sauce: Which Republican talking point do you fall back on when you need to portray a man who has encouraged developing nations to legalize genocide as an "innocent" victim?

  11. Good for the Goose is confusing bullying of Scott Lively with Scott Lively's presumed right to express his views without being challenged. No right not to be challenged exists. You have the right to speak, but in a free society, your opponents also have the right to respond. As near as I can tell from the video, the protesters had their say, and Scott Lively was given an opportunity to respond. From the video, at least, no one threatened Lively's personal safety. No one made intimations of violence against Lively or his coffee shop. They alerted the public to Scott Lively's history. I'm sorry, but that's fair game. Would you support a coffee shop that advocated the death of fundamentalist christians?
