So stupid. Towleroad could be a serious gay news/debate source, but having to post beefcake like this cheapens the site so it’s just like all other lite gay fare, or Murdoch’s The Sun.

  2. Andrew says

@Terry – Are you ashamed?! Part of being gay is being sexually attracted to men. One of the great things abt being gay is being open about what you’re attracted to – why should we try and be as prude as straight culture wants us to be?

Now, while this contest may be a little superficial, we (the gay community) have nothing to be ashamed of in posting content like this on our own blogs. It’s not like this is a sexual personal ad or anything. A (very) softcore youtube video of a hunky rugby player? Yes please.

  3. Terry says

Not at all ashamed. I go to porn sites to look at nude men, not news sites. It’s unfortunate that during this time of liberation, we still have to put bare pecs on top of everything if we expect a gay audience to look. Why are there no serious gay publications? The Advocate is a joke.

  4. Glenn says

I really don’t think you can accuse Andy of not dealing with serious issues here. I mean, c’mon. If you don’t like the occasional beefcake, then don’t read those posts. Simple, no?

  5. JeffRob says

‘Shame and self-loathing’ because we’re looking at pics of a hot straight guy? Are you kidding? Relax, buddy.

And Towleroad never claimed to be the Wall Street Journal. That’s why we like it.

  6. Swine says

Oh that’s why I like it here — I can get the depressing news & still be able to pop a boner. If this super-duper hottie doesn’t give ya wood, well then go support Newtie!

  7. Terry says

Yeah it surely isn’t WSJ. As I said before, no problem with beef, porn, etc. but I think it strange there is no popular gay news site that doesn’t resort to putting up pics of straight hunks to oogle so they can make dollars. When the Sun and other straight publications do so with tits, they are considered crapola–something from the 50s. In depth coverage on a wider range of queer-related topics beyond “depressing news” (as Swine writes)would do us a lot of good. You can “pop a boner” on thousands of other sites made for that exact purpose.

  8. OMNOMNOM says

There’s just something inherently offputting about men with female names. “Sacha”, “Courtney”, and “Angel” being the most common offenses.

He is kinda handsome though, albeit a bit scrawny.

  9. al says

@OMNOMNOM: might want to consider that “sacha” is a (VERY common) MALE name across europe, and “angel” is a MALE name in spanish. similarly, “courtney” was almost exclusively a MALE name until the mid-20th century.

and @Terry: i totally disagree. i love andy’s mix of serious news, pop culture, hot guys, and whatever else piques his interest. in any case, it’s his website, if you don’t like what he posts, go somewhere else, or start your own blog.

  10. V-8 says

I think he has a great body, but the face, not so much….

also Sacha is a man’s name, short of Alexander, I believe…..

and Angel is like Angelo, with the G sounding more like a strong H… (UN-hell)

    Andy Towle,
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE VIDEO AND PHOTO OF, Sacha Harding. SINCE YOU SHOW “BEEFCAKE,” IT MEANS A LOT TO ME YOU HIGHLIGHTED A HAIRY MALE. SOME OF YOUR READERS, SIR, ARE “BEAR” FANS. AGAIN, Mr. Towle, THANKS.
    WITH GREAT SINCERITY,
    CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON
