  1. Here's to hoping that the cloning of meat is a success. Meat consumption is by far the biggest environmental threat we face, much more destructive than the burning of fossil fuels. I have been a vegetarian for almost 40 years now and wish everyone would become one, but since most people probably never will, test-tube meat appears to be our best hope.

  2. Hadn't heard about that NC hate crime: absolutely disgusting.

Nothing gets my blood boiling more than an individual who sees no benefit in the identification and classification of hate crimes.

Random acts of violence are just that: random. Guy needs money, so he robs the first person he sees at an ATM. Random.

Hate crimes have patterns. Guy hates gays. Guy beats up first gay guy he sees leave a gay bar. Patterns and predictability.

Opposing hate crime categorization is the same thing as opposing the profiling of serial killers.

  3. Though I certainly hope that not eating is beneficial---since I forget or am too lazy to eat at least 2 days a week, usually more---I don't understand why they spell the name of the place Ageing (British) instead of Aging. I also don't understand why they say that 500 calories is equivalent to "a few vegetables and some tea." Most vegetables and tea have next to no calories.

  7. KPO5 - Absolutely agree. It's like saying that there is no difference between a serial killer planning, selecting, stalking, and killing someone and someone who accidentally causes the death of another person. Because someone is dead, right? Why is one death more noteworthy than the other? Answer: Intent.

  8. Not eat for 2 days? Try getting people these days to not eat for 2 hours.

Meat consumption is not the biggest environmental issue we face.

  9. I agree with that Anon. I don't think the problem is in meat consumption. We have to eat rationally.
