Melissa

Protect All NC Families has released its first two commercials. succinct powerful spots that put into focus two of the awful consequences should Amendment One, the ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in North Carolina.

ConsequencesThe campaign's ads focus on two of the most powerful elements which angered people in the polling about Amendment One - that it would take away children's health insurance and jeopardy the safety of domestic violence victims - and feature real North Carolinians.

Watch them, AFTER THE JUMP...

Early voting has already begun in the state and  campaign organizers report that voting has seen overwhelming response on campuses. The campaign has a remarkable amount of bipartisan opposition to a referendum of this kind.

One of the most urgent needs at the moment for this campaign is to get national attention, so the more you can spread this message far and wide, the better.

$95,000 towards the match has been raised out of the $100,000 challenge from straight philanthropist Todd Stiefel.

Watch the new ads, which began airing at 5:30am this morning, AFTER THE JUMP...

You can donate HERE to expand their ad buy, and donate HERE to contribute to straight philanthropist Todd Stiefel's matching gift to air the ads.

  2. Only ONE comment in here....if this was an article about Madonna....our community would have written 25 comments on here. I guess we know our priorites really well. And where is Madonna during this time? Doesn't she have enough money to at least support this cause and make a difference?

  3. the world is waking up, Josh.

And your comment doesn't count, since you used the space to, uh, complain about Madonna, or something. because that's useful.

anyone, my canadian @ss just sent a cheque to the protect all NC families group.

this is an astonishingly bigoted bill, and shows the true colours of these prejudiced groups. it's not just about "the word marriage", as NOM liked to pretend. it's an all-out attack on LGBT couples and individuals as persons of worth. FIGHT IT.

  4. Josh, I share your frustration. But YOU commented! I think these spots are great. I'm not always sure the money I donate to other campaigns is being used effectively, but I'm glad this is on the air.

  5. The ads for gay marriage need to show LGBT families and their children and focus on the kids. Many in America is dumb to the fact that there are thousands of kids in LGBT families that need protection just like theirs. Focus on the kids and we will win.

  6. the galling reality behind these laws is that they actually put kids at risk. the law aint stopping LGBT couples, or individuals, from having children. all they do is ensure that their children at put at a disadvantage. it's disgusting.

  7. The leader of the anti-gay forces here in NC, Tami Fitzgerald, has been very open that this amendment will do more than just ban marriage. She has agreed that it will also can civil unions and domestic partnerships. And, she says that is by design. They want to ban any form of recognition because they believe civil unions or domestic partnerships would be the "camel's nose under the tent" and would be used as a gateway to marriage in the future. She has said she wants to stop it all now, once and for all.

  9. this just needs to be a reminder to everyone in our community - the opposition to Marriage Equality has N O T H I N G to do with the word "marriage", AT ALL.

it is a problem with lgbt people being legitimized in society. they don't want us to feel free to live open and secure lives. why? because hating us is all they have left to feel "good" about in life.

  10. These commercial spots are excellent because they show the real life consequences of Amendment One. Some might object to 'using kids' but again, these show what WILL happen to kids - not theoretical and 'well maybe' slippery slope fallacies (that never make any sense). Amendment One doesn't just attack LGBT citizens - literally hundreds of thousands of men and women (Gay and Straight) will wake up (assuming this nasty legislation passes) with a whole bunch of horrible consequences to deal with - and that's why word has to get out!

  11. @Josh: your comments do count even though you have been excommunicated by Pope Kiwi because he disagreed with part of your comment. Keep on commenting Josh. We benefit from a variety of opinions.
