The Second Class Citizens of Amendment One: PHOTOS

Every1gainst1

A campaign called Every1Against1 is using images commonly seen in the African-American civil rights battle to highlight the harms that would be done by North Carolina's Amendment One, and encouraging their spread through social media.

  1. I don't agree with this either ... while we most certainly do not have equal rights, we shouldn't outright compare them to the torture African-Americans went through ... Both of our movements have gone through tortures, but they are different and should remain that way.

  3. Yes Shannon, respect other people by calling them "stupid clowns" and "idiots"...and by the way gay men and women have been subjected to the same things you rant about here. Perhaps more men than women since for many years lesbians were thought not to exist. In Germany, and in the countries subjugated by the Germans, countless gay men were thrown into concentration camps. Some were gassed to death, some were worked to death, some were starved to death.
In earlier times in history gay men and women were burned to death.
In no time in history has "black" ever been considered a mental illness. It has never been illegal in any American state to "be" black or practice "blackness".
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe that anywhere in the bible it states that "blackness" is an abomination and that blacks should be stoned to death for being black.
I do not hear ANY religious leader/person/conman speaking from the pulpit today about limiting the rights of black people, condemning black people for being sinful, or saying that black people will cause the downfall of civilization.
I once read something that has stuck with me for many years but I cannot find who said it...it was a discussion that had to do with "who has suffered more" ,and it may have been Elie Wiesel who said "we are not talking about real estate" ...meaning that it doesn't matter if 10,000 of YOUR people were killed and tortured and only 9,000 of MY people were, it is the fact that ANY number of people who have suffered for who and what they are is heinous.
I find it offensive that some people here are saying, in effect, "those are OUR symbols of oppression and suffering and you can't use them because YOU haven't suffered the same as we have". Suffering is suffering, oppression is oppression...and we are NOT talking about real estate.

  4. I think this entire ad campaign is a setup that's designed to sow discord between the African-American and LGBT communities. No one in NC has ever heard of every1against1. The group's web site was only registered on 4/23, and the earliest mentions of it in the media are from around 4/26. So how does a heretofore unknown group come up with the money to hire an ad agency like The Variable? And is it just a coincidence that The Variable chooses to make a direct comparison between the struggle for LGBT equality and thie civil rights movement? NOM's recently discovered race baiting strategy pointed out that this comparison angers many African-Americans.

So we're supposed to believe that just days before the amendment is voted on, a new pro-equality group emerges out of nowhere with a slick, professionally produced ad campaign that just happens to use a theme NOM has said it will exploit in order to divide blacks and gays.

Folks, I think we are being played here.
