Gay Couple Barred from Entering High School Prom in Kentucky: VIDEO
A lesbian couple was turned away from Lexington Catholic High School's prom in Kentucky, LEX18 reports:
"What I experienced in the Dean's Office was blatant homophobia," said Hope Decker, a senior at the school. "We were told that this school has catholic principles and so they couldn't let it happen."
"At first I was really upset," said Tiffany Wright, Decker's date for the dance. "I mean, we both cried and then I was like, this is ridiculous. There's gotta be something we could do about this."
Decker, Wright, and dozens of their friends still dressed up for the occasion and even attempted to get into the school for prom. When turned away, they decided to have their own outdoor version outside of the school.
"I just think it's ridiculous that a school that claims to foster love and equality is doing something like this to its own students," said Wright.

sorry girls but if you go to a catholic school (in Kentucky) and expect them not to be bigots then you have learned nothing in your time there.

VirtualDespot nailed it. I can't believe everyone's ganging-up on these girls. Yeah, ya really think they had no idea they were in a Catholic School? Um, of course they did! They attempted to go to the prom ANYWAY! That's called activism, and you'd think more people reading this blog would recognize it.

The comments seem to miss the most important hypocrisy of all. These girls did not become lesbians five minutes before prom. Teachers, students and administration knew these girls were lesbians for quite some time. They were allowed to attend class and participant in all other school activities for a long, long time. Why wouldn't they expect to be allowed into yet another school function as they had previously?
I'm a gay alumni of this school. In my day, pregnant teens were expelled using the same reasoning as used against these young women. I'm told the pregnancy policy has changed. Gay dancing will too. Due to the bravery and composure of these eloquent ladies and the support of their loving friends the change will come sooner.
The school accepts my money without question. It accepted the tuition of these women without question. It allowed them INTO the school in the first placce. That's the hypocrisy.
Further, in my day well we had teachers at this school known to be gay and they were and still are allowed to teach there. How's that for some hypocrisy? Yes, the Catholic Church paid and still continues to pay gay people to teach at this school. Thank God for the two female students in this article. Perhaps their example of being out, proud and loving will have ripple effects on the closeted and bitter administration who over time have developed a deep resentment towards students capable of doing what they cannot - love themselves.

I have read most of the comments here and no one has even thought of "God".
Clearly most of these people don't beleive in him, or wish to obey him.
There will be a judgement, even if you don't believe.

Billy Bob - I agree there will be a judgement. It will be from God, not you or the Catholic Church. Stop trying to do God's job. God doesn't really need your help.

A private school is free to discriminate. And the people they discriminate against are free to exert social pressure on that school to enlighten or punish it.

MLD - You are ignorant if you think that the only segregated schools were in the South, or that resistance to integration was only in the South. They had segregated schools in Canada for cripes sake.

I think the whole decision of the "anti-gay" rhetoric is pretty hypocritical considering the Catholic Church put up with priests sexually molesting alter boys for many years.
