Preacher Breaks Down While Discussing 'Ex-Gay' Guide: VIDEO

JesseConnors

Conservative ideologues are currently gathered in Washington DC for Family Research Council's Watchmen on the Wall Pastors Briefing, where a man named Jesse Connors was given an opportunity to tout his website, TrueLife.org.

In addition to providing Biblical analysis and local church listings, Right Wing Watch reports the site also has a number of "instructional" videos that Connors claims were "built to convert a homosexual."

Connors must have felt the spirit, because he became overwhelmed by emotion and began to weep, especially when discussing one of the star's of his "ex-gay" video, a man who died of HIV/AIDS-related causes.

There's a lot that could be said about this little scene, and I'll let you do the talking in the comment. But first, watch the video, AFTER THE JUMP

  1. I want to applaud Andy for leaving this up to us to make judgment. Keeping your opinion largely out of it is very classy for a blog, and a lot could have been said right up front. I like making my own opinion on things like this and not being lead. Kudos!

  4. Some antigay actvists and Christians are Machiavellians. But most who are men are closeted fags who harm not only themselves but so many more. It's sickening.

  6. I am almost 60 years old, and in my life I have seen several gay people commit suicide over the pressure put upon us by psychiatrists and so-called Christ-likes. I feel so sorry for this 'preacher' and the kid in the video.

  8. This Comment:

' OMG...how pathetic. Someone put this poor repressed homo to sleep...but first tie him down and "f" him up the ass with his crucifix one last time!! '

was extremely inappropriate. Since it advocates the murder and rape of someone, I think it counts as hate speech, and I hope it gets removed.

*If the author didn't mean it that way, they should have phrased it differently.

  9. I need to implore gay youth that not ALL "christian" pastors, Churches and Faiths are as selfless, selfish and interpreters of God or Jesus as this whining homophobe! The UU Church, The Episcopal Church, the Church of Christ, The Metropolitan Community Churches are mostly accepting AND affirming of people who happen to be gay. Remember: THE EMPTY BARREL makes the most noise and they are getting noisier as FINALLY, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag becomes more of a reality in America: we're witnessing "liberty and justice for all." more and more and THEY are terrified!! God is experienced in our heart; NOT in our ears!
Hugz to youth, from a 71 y.o. Gay Veteran!!

  10. Jesse Connors NEEDS TO FIND INNER-PEACE. HE MAY HAVE A FAMILIAL CONNECTION TO CHRISTIANITY - THAT'S FINE. HIS BRIEF "RANT" ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY AND ATHEISM IS DISTURBING; ONCE Mr. Connors "CALMS-DOWN," HE MAY VIEW ATHEISM AS A "WELCOME-GUEST" WHEN THE MEMBERS OF HIS CHURCH BEGIN TO CHALLENGE HIS EFFEMINANCY.

  11. While I'd really like to slam him (like NC Pastor Worley), and was set up to watch this vid with a bit of self-righteous glee, I found it heartbreaking. This poor man is where he is because he's bought into a lie (probably out of desperation): that gay is a choice, and he's hell bound if he doesn't pretend to be straight. Would it be wrong to kill two birds with one stone, and lay the blame at the feet of that SOB Worley and his ilk for creating an atmosphere where obvious closet cases like this are driven to self-loathing?

  12. "BRIAN" (24 MAY; 2:25:39 PM),
"TEA PARTIERS" AND FUNDAMENTALISTS SHOULD BOND WITH HIM SINCE THE CLERGY CONSIDERS PEOPLE LIKE, Mr. Connors, TO BE THE "BEST" POSSIBLE OUTCOME AFTER "REHABILITATION." THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE HIV/AIDS "DEATH-SCARE" AND A "COMING-HOME" TO RELIGION. TO AVOID INFECTION, SOME HOMOSEXUALS HAVE CEASED SEXUAL ACTIVITY; THEREFORE, "CHANNELING" ENERGY INTO RELIGION SEEMS TO BE THE ANSWER FOR SOME.
