Michelle Obama Discusses Her Support for Marriage Equality: VIDEO

Michelle_obama

First Lady Michelle Obama answers a series of questions submitted via Twitter in a new video released by the White House. The last questioner in the series asks her about marriage equality.

"Please tell us about your family discussions about marriage equality and thank President Obama for his support!"

Says Obama in the clip:

"This is an important issue for millions of Americans, and for Barack and me, it really comes down to the values of fairness and equality that we want to pass on to our girls. These are basic values that kids learn at a very young age and that we encourage them to apply in all areas of their lives. And in a country where we teach our children that everyone is equal under the law, discriminating against same-sex couples just isn’t right. So it’s as simple as that."

  8. Statements like this from people like her have a real impact. Although I am an atheist, I think I feel the way true believers feel when they say things like "God bless her!" I would bet because of statements like this from her and the President matter so much in the black community that more blacks will be in support of gay marriage than whites soon if not already. I am an insufferable optimist, but I have been disapionted a lot less than usual recently. It has been a good year and it is still spring. I have a feeling.

  13. Barack Hussein AND Michelle ARE TRAINED ATTORNEYS. AS A NEGRO MALE, I KNOW HER STATEMENT, "...everyone is equal under the law...," IS A LIE. PERIOD. TO WANT A BETTER FUTURE FOR AMERICA IS ONE THING - TO BLATANTLY IGNORE THE VIEWS OF THE "COMMON MAN ON THE STREET" IS ANOTHER. THE OBAMAS ARE "UNREAL!"

  16. @Christopher Allen HOrton
Uh, so you are saying they are trained attorneys, but as a NEGRO MALE you are more knowledgeable about the law? How does that work?
More importantly what views of the "COMMON MAN ON THE STREET" are they avoiding? Did you know they poll everything to death? But, I suppoes you as a NEGRO MALE are better tapped into the views of the COMMON MAN IN THE STREET? Who do you think the COMMON MAN IN THE STREET is? What do you think he looks like? More importantly, do you assume he is a NEGRO MALE?

  20. FIRST, TO "MIKE," I MAY NOT HAVE ANSWERED THIS QUESTION ON THIS SITE, SO I WILL ANSWER - FOR ME, THE WORD, "NEGRO" IS SEXY. AS MALE HOMOSEXUALS, WE ALL HAVE WORDS WE "SEXUALIZE."

NOW, "NULLNAUGHT," SIR, I HOPE YOU ARE KIDDING. BUT, IF NOT, I WILL ANSWER. "NULLNAUGHT," I MENTIONED THE FACT Michelle IS A TRAINED ATTORNEY BECAUSE SHE IS ALSO A NEGRO FEMALE. IT IS A "KICK IN THE GUT" TO EVERY NEGRO IN AMERICA TO HEAR ANOTHER NEGRO TALK ABOUT, "equal under the law." THAT IS TREASON IN THE NEGRO COMMUNITY. "THE COMMON MAN ON THE STREET" REFERS TO EVERYDAY, HARD-WORKING PEOPLE WHO PAY THEIR OWN WAY AND THINK "gay" MARRIAGE IS WRONG.

  21. Christopher Horton:
    1) Perhaps she should have said "everyone should be equal under the law." We gay people certainly know we aren't equal where the law is concerned, but we appreciate the sentiment. Give the lady a break.
    2) Isn't it a little odd that the common man on the street is just like you?
    3) What's up with the 'kook caps' thing?

  22. @Christopher Allen Horton
Sir, I understand now what you mean about as a NEGRO MALE you feel you can know about inequality under the law better than what you conceded were trained lawyers. Uh, do you think as gay men we might know better what it is to be unequal before the law seeing as being a NEGRO MALE does not limit you from marrying anyone of legal age who consents that you please? I am not saying you are not limited in who you can marry, but your limitation would be as a gay man, not as a NEGRO MALE . You do see that don't you? So you are kind of making that point on the wrong footing, don't you think? Do you realize you are more discriminated against as a gay man than as a NEGRO MALE? That if you can prove you are being discriminated against under the law because you are a NEGRO MALE you have legal remedies because equal before the law is a legal principle?
It looks like in your definition of "COMMON MAN ON THE STREET" you are including that he must think gay marriage is wrong. So if the majority of americans were for gay marriage, your definition would mean the COMMON MAN ON THE STREET was in the minority? Why should the COMMON BIGOT IN THE STREET deserve SPECIAL CONSIDERATION?

  23. Umm, ignore the troll. He's making stupid points that don't deserve a response. No black person refers to themselves as a Negro, and no one worth conversing with types in all caps.
