  1. That Twitterfeed on Frank Ocean is really depressing. Black people may not necessarily be more homophobic that people of other races, but hip-hop culture sure does its part to generate some really warped and scary ideas about hyper-masculinity, which results in a lot of homophobia and intolerance (not to mention misogyny).

  2. The best part of the Frank Ocean story is that he's making music that's stands so head and shoulders above the ho's, pimps, dollah's, playah's garbage that if I was his competition I'd be angry too.

Talent is the biggest check you can deliver to mediocrity and ignorance. Frank Ocean is going to be just fine.

  3. "As a gay man, I find myself consumed by the concept of masculinity"

Indeed. Of course, you do. The honest truth.

"This issue becomes even more confusing for gay men. As a gay, you understand that while you'll always find peers who allow you to be exactly as queeny as you are, there is still a social hierarchy that puts a premium on masculinity. Tops are valued. "Straight-acting" is a badge of pride, despite the term's corrosiveness. I'm not immune to this – my eye wanders toward men who appear to be more on the masculine side, and I don't know why that is."

Your eye and everybody else's eye, as well. And why is that? Nature. That's all. Nature.

"Shavings of internalized homophobia that litter my brain could be the culprit."

No, it's nature. Stop trying to fight it.

"To counter, I've been considering adopting an affirmative-action policy toward femme guys. I tell myself, "Get into it," like the drag queens/all of us say."

LOL. It won't work, of course.

And here we see the ill effects of the ideology of gender-non-conformity.

The real solution is for gay men to rid themselves of the unnatural behavior that the culture of effeminacy has wrought and behave the way nature intended for us to--just like other men. Which not only makes us more attractive to ourselves, but to others, including other gay men.

When we all do so, we will have truly liberated ourselves. Not until then, though.

  4. Someone give Rick a cookie and some prozac. Hating herself must be exhausting work. Homegirl needs to get laid outside of a truckstop once in a while. It's kinda sad, she seems like she could be a semi-decent person if she stopped freebasing the daddy issues.

  6. Oh a story on baseball caps, that's interesting, I like wearing those.

    *clicks link

.....oh...a simpering garbage article from Gawker that delusionally overanalyzes the "hidden meanings" of liking baseball caps, and neurotically wrings its hands over what to think about them like some obnoxious self-involved teenage schoolgirl. Great. Hey wake me up when Gawker publishes something interesting on the topic of gay men that isn't written by some pathologically hysterical wymynns studies graduate obsessed with the misandric vagaries of "gender performance", "the male gaze", and obviously contrived "internalized homophobia". Whenever I meet someone of the sort who writes articles like that one, I try to get myself away from them as fast as I possibly can.

  8. Tatum/Pettyfer feud. I've read and heard nothing but bad about Pettyfer. He does seem to be a diva with very little talent. I wouldn't pay to see him clothed or naked. He just strikes me as very much into himself and that makes him ugly regardless of his physical assets. I also can't understand the adulation heaped upon Channing, either, but taste is purely subjective. I live in a major university town and see college men everyday (except during the summer months) that are extremely more attractive than either of these two.

Nancy Grace could drive anyone to suicide. She has the face of a pig and the tongue of a viper. I hope someday she's visited by Karma and pays a major toll for her hatefulness.

Romney used the NAACP to provide red meat for his racist Tea Party doubters. He'll boast of bearding the lion in its den. The appearance was calculated to be a win/win for Romney no matter how it turned out. It was wise for Obama not to go, since his appearance would have been played by the GOP and their propagandists as pure pandering to his "colored" base.

They will eventually kill Bradley Manning. He is being used as a threat against anyone who might even think about whistle blowing in the future. Of course I learned long ago that military "justice" is to justice what military music is to music. Manning's treatment is unconscionable for a first world "democracy", but we lost our moral compass to fear and cowardice when we allowed the Patriot Act to become law.

Okay, that's it for now. TTFN!

Oh, and Rick, please get some psychological counseling. Your life must be a living hell.

  12. Baseball caps? Seriously? I'm the exact opposite. I avoid hitting on guys that are wearing sunglasses or baseball caps. I usually find that they are trying to hide something and look way better covered up.

  14. The Ocean-Sandusky thing reveals what many in the public are really angry about in the case, and it's not the rape. It's the fact they were boys.

  15. @BEAHBEAH, exactly!!! In my experience, gays who wear baseball caps are just bald and are trying to cover it up. It doesn't make you more masculine, it makes you seem insecure... everyone knows your bald under that cap. Why hide it.. I actually think bald is pretty sexy.

As for "straight acting" gays... why the need to put on an act? Just be yourself.

  17. I'm always somewhat suspicious of the intelligence of a person who says something like "jokes about X are never funny!", or even "never ok!". That sort of fascist impulse has always raised my ire. Of course they can be and are funny.

  19. The Sandusky / Penn State child sex scandal is beyond disgusting. Even now there are many students trying to whitewash what happened, because they believe it reflects badly on them, and the Penn State name will hurt future career prospects. The banality of evil.

    ===================

I had bad night terrors as a child. Night terrors are very vivid nightmares where you're half asleep / half awake, paralyzed. Usually they involved an evil malevolent thing / entity in the room with me, sometimes it would appear like the ceiling and walls were moving and closing in on me. I knew I was asleep and dreaming but was still very aware, and always said to myself that if I could just move one part of my body, a toe or finger, I'd wake up and it would be over. Sometimes I thought I was going to suffocate and die. Sleep paralysis is terrifying especially to a child.

  20. @Lucas,

Please tell me what exactly is acting gay? I'm gay. I'm not effeminate in any way. I would consider myself I suppose to be a non-effeminate gay man. Is that OK?

    Posted by: ratbastard | Jul 12, 2012 6:58:20 PM

  21. @Ratbastard: Nope, not okay! Clearly, you're self-loathing and have a terrible life. Gay people must not conform to society's rules, they must only conform to the rules of other gay men.

  22. "The Ocean-Sandusky thing reveals what many in the public are really angry about in the case, and it's not the rape. It's the fact they were boys."

Sadly, there's a bit of truth in this. Also, I bet > 80% of those twitter morons are in the closet or "on the down low". I once worked with an African-American guy, basically masculine seeming but sometimes rather tellingly florid in his expressions and body language. He once spent an ENTIRE DAY (we shared a 4 person office) talking about how much he hated the movie "Jarhead" he'd seen the night before, and how f-ggy it was, how Jake was probably a f-g, etc. etc. It was so bleedin' obvious he was into Jake's booty and couldn't deal with it. My point is there's a tendency in young black men with this problem to lash out rather than internalize. (of course, I was not openly gay to these particular coworkers)

  23. Am I the only gay man who likes the look and company of effeminate men? Im a pitcher, and I like my catchers a little swishy. It turns me on. And I dont mean queeny, or catty. I mean fem.
If youre naturally just you? GREAT why change it?? Please dont wear a baseball cap, scratch ur crotch, adjust your jewels and spit on the sidewalk: just so's you can prove to someone youre not gay.

  25. Not trusting guys wearing baseball caps or sunglasses? Really? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. I have to wear sunglasses because my eyes are incredibly sensitive to the sun, and I wear a cap sometimes because I have a ton of hair that is a pain to style and I prefer not to look insane.
