Cinderfella, A Gay Equality Fairy Tale Pop Musical: VIDEO

Cinderfella

Season 9 American Idol contestant Todrick Hall pulled together an energetic retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale with a gay twist and a few other Disney characters thrown in for good measure.

Writes Hall: "I wanted to tell this famous fairy tale in a new and innovative way, combining familiar top 40's songs with classic Disney melodies. This story speaks volumes and I think that love is as classic as this fairy tale. It's time for us to legalize love in all shapes and colors."

The video features a colorful cast of characters including Lance Bass as Prince Charming, Janice Dickinson as the evil stepmother, Shangela and Willam Belli as the stepsisters, plus Glozell as the Fairy Godmother, Kimberly Cole as Jasmine, and Aubrey O’Day as Alice.

  9. That was cute, much better than I expected.

Was Disney involved in this, I wonder? Because they're pretty ruthless when it comes to suing over anything that even *might* impinge on "their" characters. I don't know how much success they'd have but that doesn't mean they won't try it.

  12. This young man is insanely talented. He's also pushing really hard to get on Glee - and I think they could do some amazing things with him on that show.

  13. When Todrick was on "Idol" I found him very off-putting--there was just something arrogant and smug and obnoxious about him. (And his over-reliance on melisma, like so many of today's singers, is exhausting.) However, I have to say that this showed his talents off nicely, the sets and costumes and special effects were terrific, and the song mash-ups were often very clever and smooth. Good choreography too (though somewhat frantically edited). Could even have been an extra five minutes longer and I wouldn't have complained.

  20. Why was there no kiss at the end? Was Lance too scared to kiss a black guy?

  21. Very well done- and yeah a kiss would have been nice at the end-but over all a clever, fun and very gay video
