Dana Carvey Does Funny Things On 'The Tonight Show': VIDEO
Dana Carvey showed up on The Tonight Show on Friday, causing reasonable people across North America to wonder: Why isn't Dana Carvey on TV more often?
He was only intermittently hilarious -- but when he scatted briefly with the house band (while impersonating Barack Obama!) or enacted a late-night telephone call between former presidents George I and II, he was himself at his best, which is a rare and lovely thing.

Back in 1977, I was a judge at the 2nd Laugh-Off at Golden Pond in San Francisco. The year before Robin Williams had won the first. I had a gossip column in a S.F. neighborhood newspaper. I voted for Dana as best original act. The guy who came in 2nd, did a wicked impression of Elmer Fudd singing Jonh Denver songs!

A Senior moment... it was Waldon Pond on Divisadero near Calif or Sacramento. They moved downtown to the Alcoa Building in the Embarcadero Center. It was a comedy club. John and Ann Fox owned it, and Frank Kidder put the contest together. They also used the ZOO on Clament St. as a host bar.
