New Mexico Christian School Rejects Kid with Gay Parents: VIDEO
A Christian school which accepts federal funding has rejected a 3-year-old from attending because the prospective student's parents are gay, KOAT reports:
Action 7 News got a copy of the letter that Hope Christian School sent to the family.
It says in part: “Same gender couples are inconsistent with scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings,” and "Home life doesn't reflect the school's belief of what a biblical family lifestyle is.”
The letter also says since the school is private, it is free from "excessive government interference in matters of religion."
The school will receive more than $60,000 in federal tax dollars this school year. That money will be used for educator professional development, according to the state's Public Education Department. The school qualifies for that money under federal guidelines.
“We don't think agencies that discriminate or use religion to discriminate should be receiving our federal or government funds,” said Peter Simonson with the ACLU.

Perhaps they are enrolling their child in a christian school because they are Christian. Believe it or not, there are gay Christians. In their hearts, perhaps they believed that they would be welcome because of their faith. Even if that same faith says that they are sinners. Aren't we all? But God's love is supposed to boundless isn't it?
Were the parents being naive? Of course. But I think they just wanted to choose an education for their child in accordance with their beliefs and preferences. Just like anybody else.
It's just sad that we are now dragging children into this stupid adult mess.

In their inhospitality they have completely missed what it means to be Christian.

If they're going to discriminate like that, all federal funding should be revoked. Ditto for all institutions that are against insurance covering contraception and/or abortions.

Get all government funding the HELL out of that school.

With the failing public education in America, perhaps they wanted the best school for their child. I know that's the case for many people who send kids to private schools. Either way if you want to receive federal funding you have to follow federal laws which say sexual orientation is a protected category. The school should lose federal funding if they won't comply. All private schools should be free to choose who attends but federal funding should be withheld from schools that don't want to follow ALL non discrimination laws. I support LGBT rights to the fullest but we can't expect religion to support them. That's what freedom of religion is about. As much as I hate knowing there are religious groups hating on the rights of others, its their freedom to do so in the confines of their organization. It however is unacceptable to leave the religious realm and slither into corporations (Chick-Fil-A) and the government (abortion, anti-gay marriage bills, etc)

If a education system is not going to be accepting of all, logic dictates that they should not be accepting of "all"s money.
If an education system also feels that it has the right to pick and choose its students based of discriminating factors such as family orientation, logic again dictates that it should not be a public school and should become private. Thus denying themselves the opportunity to "soil" themselves with THOSE people's money.
We are having the same issues up here in Canada, a lot of the catholic schools have been bullied into the first steps of acceptance. :D

As a person who attended catholic school I'm disgusted with hope Christians actions. If you are to use the bible and biblical lifestyles as a premise to deny a student then shouldnt kids with divorced parents also not be allowed. Kids with parents who have committed adultery also banned. It's funny how people use the bible to justify there acts of hatred towards others yet. They never seem to use the whole bibleonly the parts of it they see fit. If you're so holy and follow the teachings of god, then I suggest they start following all te teachings they see fit.

Because they take Federal money, the school would not be able to refuse a child because the child's family is atheist or even devil worshipers (protected class). I know a couple of Jewish people and Protestants who went to Catholic school because they felt it was the best education they could get where they lived. During the time for religious instruction they had independent study. Interesting that some religious schools can accommodate someone who does not share their faith, while others reject one of their own.

I hope they don't serve pork or shellfish, they should also reject little girls because girls shouldn't be educated, they better not have a football program either because those are all sins that deserve death! Seriously this country is pissing me off more and more. Hypocritical Christians can go die and join their sky wizard for all I care.

To everyone wondering why these parents would try enrolling their child in a Christian school, it IS possible to be both gay and Christian. Not all Christians are bigots. Plenty of them realize that the Bible's supposedly obvious message on homosexuality is not nearly as clear cut as some would pretend.
