Herman Cain: Dan Cathy Told Me He's Donating 'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' Millions to Anti-Gay Groups - VIDEO
Herman Cain tells FOX News that gay people are protesting Chick-fil-A "since they can’t seem to get enough attention. That is what this is all about."
He also said he spoke with President Dan Cathy, who told him that anti-gay groups are about to get a hefty donation, Think Progress reports:
Cain, who claimed that he spoke with Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy, said that the company’s sales exceeded $30 million during Wednesday’s “appreciation day,” “almost twice his previous high.” “They are going do take a lot of the excess profits they got on that day and contribute it to the charitable organizations they support in even bigger numbers,” Cain added.
Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

So Chik Fil A has officially established itself as a company that strictly exists to strip LGBT of their equality. As of now, I don't believe there's any backlash strong enough against them. They have drawn the line in the sand and are now threatening the existence of our people

If this company, ANY company donated this unbelievable amount of money to discriminate against black people.... Not a single store would exist in America. NOT ONE.
That a hate company which donates to hate groups and promotes hate toward another demographic is allowed is OUTRAGEOUS!

I think Chik fil a should hold on to their money. Yesterday was a one timer, but now they have to make up for all the customers they offended with thier hate speech. Over the long haul-give it a year-the amount of sales they will lose will hurt.

This kiss in has become kind of like a code pink protest.
See with other protests you can have thousands and thousands of people protesting and if the left and the media disagree well then it gets very little if any coverage.
But when you have a code pink protest or militant gays all you need to have are 3 members within 5 square miles of each other and it gets covered as a major political event.
And thats what this was...Built up as a major political event that would change the poltical landscape...And it turned out to be...not much of anything.
I still don't understand what exactly a kiss in is supposed to be protesting. Their perversions?

Here's why the Chick-fil-a blip o' the week was a lose/lose for both sides. Chick-fil-a, at first glance made a boatload of money this week. Were that largess from the conservative communities (plural) to continue, the Cathy family would soon overshadow the Gate's and the Rockefeller's in the bankbook. Alas, this is not to be.
You see, the people who showed up to Chick-fil-a to dutifully and piously wait for up to a couple hours for a chicken sandwich fall into four general categories:
A The filthy rich (Palin, Huckabee), who can afford Chick-fil-a for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner (except on Sunday). They won't do that of course, because they have an education, and know the food would soon be a detriment to health and longevity. This group is a minority. The television cameras soon will not be at Chik-fil-a, and since this group follows the TV cameras, they won't be coming back so often.
B The old, who generally have very traditional outlooks and opinions on things (and have no problem broadcasting those opinions) live on a very set income. Wednesday's splurge will have cost them a significant portion of that income. Alpo could well be on the menu come the end of the month. They won't be coming back so often.
C Christian fundamentalists who attend churches where the sermons are based upon "prosperity theology," and the minister has carefully cherry-picked the verses of the KJV that work well for them. They have educations and good careers. They were taught and promised that God truly wanted them to have that $300K suburban McMansion with a swimming pool and hot tub. If they're still living in it, they just wasted a significant portion of the money they had saved to pay the mortgage on the underwater McMansion this month, buying more chicken sandwiches than necessary so that they could "keep up with the Jones family" with protestations of righteousness. They won't be coming back so often. Neither will the Jones family... same reasons.
D The rest of the people who showed up are a mixed bag. A general characteristic is that they may have basic educations, and believe anything they're told -- especially if it shows up on the internet, radio talk shows, or daytime TV. Their churches teach "liberation theology", and they believe that the poor shall inherit the Earth, and the minister has carefully cherry-picked the verses of the KJV that work well for them. Their incomes are limited due to their socio-economic and educational levels. They also spent more money than they needed to spend, and since Chick-fil-a doesn't accept food stamps, they won't be coming back so often.
Chick-fil-a should enjoy the infusion of cash while it lasts, because the folks that stayed away -- the ones with open minds and disposable incomes and who were until Wednesday able to accept or otherwise ignore the philosophical anomalies of the Cathy clan, were insulted. The first (and easily forgettable) insults were the rather insignificant comments of the COO. This group would have gotten over that in time, and soon would have been happily munching on chicken sandwiches and yummy waffle fries. The vitriolic comments made by groups A-D above while standing in line have, however, poisoned both the brand and the atmosphere in the restaurants. It doesn't matter if Chick-fil-a instigated, supported, or even discouraged or disavowed those comments: the atmosphere in the restaurants has been poisoned. This group -- the one with open minds and disposable income -- won't be coming back. Ever.
Now on to the activists in the liberal communities (plural). Your reactions and pontifications won no friends either. Of particular hilarity was the "same-sex kiss in", which was (and the reader must admit) a knee-jerk, in-your-face, reactionary and punitive action. As a display of childish nanner nanner boo boo, it was most entertaining. As an act of social activism, it was an abject failure.
A successful act of social activism is a carefully organized, considered and constructive public performance that is designed to change minds and hearts -- think Gandhi & MLK. Yes, after all the ills you have been made to bear, it might have felt nice and very satisfying to piss Bubba off. However, all this kiss-in did, indeed, was piss Bubba off.
You see, Bubba doesn't generally have a robust education. He may or may not have a high school diploma. He may or may not have a GED. Whichever the case, he certainly does not know what a "metaphor" is, and since he has no concept of Freud's psychic defense mechanism of "reaction formation", he does not understand why seeing two men kiss makes his gut roil. His mind and heart is not changed, but hardened. It has to be, otherwise Bubba's "Beta" friends might sense weakness; they take their behavioral cues from Bubba, who (for the moment) is the Alpha.
Bubba's wife is another story altogether. She may well be capable of putting a voice to the concerns she has long held about some of Bubba's behaviors, but she dare not voice those concerns. This leaves her with another of Freud's mechanisms: denial. She gets carefully and largely coiffed, and begins shrieking verses from Leviticus, hoping against hope that it will change her lot in life. Pity her.
Get everyone together around something where leaders are telling them that their actions are righteous, and poison is brewed.
Ouch, ouch, ouch and ouch: nobody wins. Everybody fails.

Can anyone even believe Herman Cain? Has his statements about the donations being made by Cathy really true? Just days ago, CFA stated that they would no longer be supporting political issues. What is the truth?
Posted by: Jim | Aug 3, 2012 10:21:55 PM
If the rumor is true - then the tactic to take is - Jesus said whatever you do for the poor, the sick, the imprisoned you do for me, but Mr. Cathy - did you give that windfall to the children in the U.S. who only have one meal day, if they're lucky? Did you use it to shelter the homeless, many of whom are vets? Did you pay the medical bills of the people who were shot in Aurora?
No. You used it to pay the inflated salaries of homophobes.

We were talking about the Chick Fil-A story at work and only one of the four people there even knew that the issue was their donations and donor list and not their support of "traditional" marriage. This seems to have been lost in the story. None of the people even knew about the FRC or the "Kill The Gays Bill" from Uganda. Why does it seem like the real issue is being glossed over by most of the media to make it seem like the gays are just upset that CFA is against us getting married and not letting people express their views? I think the major Pro Gay groups should be focusing the media back on the real issue of their donation recipients and THEIR agendas.

We need to be more forceful in our quest for equality. EVERY gay person must be involved and play a role. I already got roughly 12 of my friends involved in gay social campaigns. It's not enough to wait and make change happen. You have to FIGHT to make it happen.

Ha Ha ! We won ! When you wheel in Herman Cain to talk about good morals & family values you know we have won ! Asking this slimeball to talk about family values is like asking Adolf Hitler to talk about care for the Jewish community !

This would be a good time for someone, oh, a really good bomb maker, to visit Chick fil a stores on Sundays when they're closed and do some "renovations."
Posted by: TooBoot | Aug 4, 2012 12:01:32 AM
A black man getting on nationa television dancing in glee over a truck load of money being invested in denying rights to another group.....if you told a gay person this 40 years ago, they wouldn't have believed you. For shame. But that's the reality it seems. Some people forget their own history, or want others to live it.

We need to get the narraitive to be about the horrible donations Chik Fil A donates to many anti gay hate groups. So people know where their money is going. We need to shift the conversation and make the media make that point known. Chik Fil A is getting off way too easy for a group that spends sooo much money tanking the rights of others, and their donations are not well exposed on the media.

Optimistic negativity is hilarious. Your assault on chicken seems to have backfired with negative publicity and financial contributions.
Pretty soon it won't matter what you say. No one will be listening. Hot summer nights in NYC used to be so much fun.

Can you imagine the reaction if gay politicians went on television all joyous over blacks being denied rights and spending millions to deny their marriages? we wouldn't hear the end of it...from the gay black community. Asian gays, latino gays, white gays, arab gays, we'd all be thrown under the bus and never hear the end of it.

M. Scott Hernandez,
with a name like hernandez, I'd think you'd be a bit more concerned with how a mob has rallied to spend millions on voting against a groups rights. YOU Hernandez could be next. And when you are, I'm sure you'll be singing a different tune than the indifferent one you have been on here when it pertains to gay rights.
