  1. Gavin George is gifted, but on the prodigy scale, not that impressive. Benjamin Grosvenor just turned 20 and is already one of the greats. Video clips of him on YouTube as a child are amazing. And there are literally dozens of Asian pianists on YouTube who play more difficult music at an early age, among the, Aimi Kobayashi and George Li. (these two are older now, Li is around 13 and already winning major competitions). And then there's Umi Garrett.

  4. I liked listening to the kid play the piano, but I can't stand how obnoxious parents are when they get to talking about how "gifted" and "talented" their kids are. Whether or not they're as gifted and talented as they think, or whether they 'feel emotions more deeply than other people' (/vomit), have a little damn modesty. Your kid is not the second fracking coming, no matter how talented.

  6. Nice story about Gavin. As I watched him, it reminded me of something I've thought of before, but have never discussed with any one else, or bothered to research online: Why are there far more male 'prodigies', especially in the arts, like music? For that matter in science, too. Almost all the 'great' musicians, artists, and scientist have been male. Please don't respond with the typical it's because of discrimination. This could have applied to a degree in the past, certainly not today, or for the past half century or more, yet the trend persists. I've also noticed males tend to be more inclined towards abstract thought vs females. On the other hand, in my experience, the average female is often more detail oriented vs the average male.
