Lady Gaga Loves Fur

6a00d8341c730253ef0177441b1395970d-250wiEarlier this summer, Andy began chronicling the growing animosity between PETA and Lady Gaga, after the songstress appeared in a b-movie promo poster dressed in what looked like a wolf carcass. At the time, PETA vice president Dan Matthews warned Gaga: "... you're making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian." (Kardashian had recently been flour-bombed by a PETA activist.)

Gaga, it appears, doesn't much care: She was spotted and photographed wandering around Cologne this week wearing what looked like the carcass of an arctic fox.

Though I cannot find the post, ABCNews notes that Gaga has posted this message to her website:

I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux fur-pile or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, 'Kermit' and not to mention meat, that I have already worn.

You see a carcass, I see a museum pièce de résistance.

Gaga proceeded to condemn PETA's "violent, abusive, and childish" brand of activism.

In 2009, Lady Gaga appeared on Ellen and described and condemned the wearing of fur:

Ellen DeGeneres quickly turned the conversation to fashion with Lady Gaga running down a list of her costume and hat designers ... One costume that has been dubbed the Kermit The Frog outfit was made by designer Jean de Castelbajac, and looks like a bunch of Kermit The Frog puppets glued together to make a top. Lady Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres, "I really loved that one in particular because I thought it was a commentary on not wearing fur, 'cause I hate fur and I don't wear fur.

  1. I'm also really shocked at the degree of ignorance from people who equate wearing fur to eating meat or even wearing genuine cattle leather. Sorry, but unless that cow you're eating or wearing was skinned alive for the sole purpose of making you look rich, it isn't the same, and people claiming it is should probably stop parading their ignorance around for the world to see.

  2. I thought this statement was released MONTHS ago, specially the last part, sounds too familiar... is she recycling press releases like she recycles Madonna songs now too?

  3. Just because PETA can be obnoxious doesn't mean they're always wrong.

    In this case, they're not.

It's too easy for people to shoot the messenger (PETA) while trying not to actually address the message.

I notice GaGa does that-- it's really disappointing. I thought GaGa wanted to look cool and artsy, not vile, mean, and stupid.

Ditch the fur, GaGa, you were right the first time, when you were on Ellen.

  4. I never complain about the content found here, but come on...was it really necessary to post this story again? I think Lady GaGa's fur-gate as been documented enough on this site.

I don't know why you are getting upset about a fur coat or two, when it is your cheese burgers and the dead cattle they come from that are destroying our planet.

  5. I don't understand actors, politicians, performers in general. They seem to truly believe that the show they put on or the front they put on is all that is important, but it's not.
The people I choose to associate with in my personal life more or less share my intrinsic values. If, for instance, I found out someone was socially conservative, I would choose not to associate with that person.
The same is true with politicians and performers. I want to know what they believe in order to decide whether I, personally, want to watch that person perform. For instance, Patricia Heston and Kelsey grammer are both ideologically conservative people. I intentionally choose not to watch anything in which they appear. So what, millions of people share their values and do watch them. Everyone has a choice.
But with performers like gaga and countless others who strive to hide their true beliefs, I'm going to just have to assume the worst and stop buying into them.
We deserve to know where people stand.
If I'm going to drop a friend because I don't like their stance on, say, abortion, why should I be tricked into supporting some performer or politician that is hiding their true core beliefs from the public?
Let it hang out there and we can each decide individually, or step aside.

  6. I never liked Lady Look-at-me Gaga. This is another reason to dislike her.

  7. Celebrities who wear fur do so as a power trip. It's just another affectation of the 1%. There's a difference between farming animals for food and another for high "fashion". Gaga is a fashionista and this year a lot of designers unfortunately used real furs in collections. And Gaga, who is the queen of copy and paste, is following high fashion. The point again is wearing fur is a the rich's way of giving the middle finger to everyone. Regardless if like her "music", it is still tasteless for her to wear even faux fur and then use it to create some controversy. I am so tired of her. I am more tired of her middle aged male fans who still think she is friendlee of the the LGBT community. Her Born This Way Foundation is just a tax shelter and an excuse for her mother to gain access to the other Real Housewives of New York. It's digusting rich people trying to act like philanthropists and do-gooders. Again, using bullied youth and gay teens as their way to through a lavish cocktail fundraiser on a Thursday night in Tribeca.

  8. What Gaga's views on wearing fur are I neither know nor care, but just because I hate sloppiness: Gaga was DEFINITELY NOT wearing a fur around Cologne. If you look at other images it is almost comically fake. It resembles a stuffed toy. The pic used here doesn't show that clearly, but no way, no how, is that a real fur.

  9. Lady gaga has a good voice and has had some hits and certainly has torn a page from madonna's playbook on how to get publicity. But i think her 15 minutes is about up. Look at the trajectory of the singles from her last album. Not all that impressive. Far more hype than actual sales. And while I appreciate her message of inclusiveness and support, i certainly don't think she's a true original pop icon with lasting power or cultural influence. So I think what she has to say or what she wear will be increasingly meaningless in pop culture. So wear fur, don't wear fur, who cares?

  11. Lady Gaga is always seen wearing something odd! Flaunting animal carcasses for fame doesn't really match her previous admirable positions on respect and dignity. But her music and songs were really good to listen so i have got cheap Lady Gaga tickets from http://www.goodseattickets.com
