Michael Stipe Demands FOX News Dease and Desist Use of R.E.M.

A note on the REMHQ web page:

R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."

Get ’em Michael and the whole REM band. “Don’t play it unless you ask and get permission”. I have seen them a few times, met and talked with Michael for about 15-20 minutes on a subway in Canada, good times.

Actually, you can license songs from a general catalog without input from the original artist. So it comes down to the fine print in the wording of the license. MS probably just wants everyone to know he doesn’t approve.

Well the whole world is controlled by evil right wing billionaire Rupert Murdoch so if he wants to steal someone’s music there is nothing you can do to stop him. He controls police, judges etc as has been proved in the UK.

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF R. E. M. SINCE THE MID-EIGHTIES WHEN I FIRST HEARD THEIR SONG, “Pretty Persuasion.”

AS A MUSICIAN, I THINK Michael Stipe SHOULD BE GLAD “Losing My Religion” IS RECEIVING EXPOSURE IN 2012 – REGARDLESS OF WHO IS USING IT.
