Mitt Romney got the capital of Libya wrong in his opportunistic statement this morning criticizing the President about his handling of the attacks against the US embassy in Cairo and the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Romney referred in his statement to the “embassies” and particularly to “our embassy at Benghazi, Libya.” He made the mistake three times, so it wasn’t just a slip of the lip.

Any first year international relations student knows that our diplomatic offices in the capital are “embassies,” and our offices in cities that are not the capital are “consulates.”

This means that Romney either had no idea what the capital of Libya was when he said it was Benghazi (it’s Tripoli, obviously), or he had no idea what the difference was between “embassies” and “consulates,” which is so basic Diplomacy 101 that it’s frightening that Mitt Romney wants to be commander in chief in four months and had no idea about the difference.

Will Rogers made these statements (apparently)– out of 10, over half of them apply to Romney and I think Romney should take note:

    4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
    6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
    8. There are three kinds of men:
The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.
    9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
    10. If you’re riding’ ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it’s still there.

    11. Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier’n puttin’ it back.

    12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring.
He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

    @ Markus,

Your idiot candidate, Romney, is not just evil but stupid. This was an easily disproved lie. If Romney’s candidacy wasn’t quite a lost cause, it is now. Take a look at the Intrade odds on Obama being reelected. 62% and still rising:

Tell your Republican mommy and daddy that you tried to trick those stupid queers into voting for Romney or third party, but it didn’t work, just like it didn’t work for the majority of Americans. I’m sorry that your Republican parents always bar you from their house on holidays, but maybe it’s time to give up.

Is it just me or Romney’s face really tempts you to slap him right across his face as if it’s requesting you to slap some brain in him. Poor face might have a hard time being on that man.

He has some real problems with grammar and sentence structure too. In sensitive situations like this one, a leader NEEDS to get these things right:

He said four diplomats lost their “life”. Were they sharing one life, or did they lose their lives?

He also said, “…the grieving loved ones who left behind…” What the hell does that even mean?

Another act of desperation. They know they look foolish because of Romney’s misadventures in the UK and Poland and Israel. Romney clearly looks nervous, he knows he’s out on a limb. He’s playing a weak hand.

Bluffing often works in business deals, but it’s not so easy to bluff an entire nation.

The Embassy issued a statement in order to calm down the public before the attacks, but now Romney claims that it was an apology to the terrorists made by Obama after the attacks.

Looks like Ryan’s knack for outrageous lies has rubbed off on Mittens.

  8. JD says

I’m tired of pretending this is an honorable human being. He’s held every position imaginable on every issue imaginable, he’s willing to do or say anything to get elected… George Romney would be ashamed.

  9. EchtKultig says

Truly, the most disingenuous man ever to have run for higher office in this country. He is absolutely sickening. He even makes Bush the II look like a class act, and if elected he will finish the job of running the country into the ground that the shrub started.

  10. Mike says

Mitt can score more points if he stops hiding his tax returns and shows them to the American people. If he is as religious as he says he is he will do it, they are suppose to tell the truth, right?

@Fury of Firestorm: “Looks like Ryan’s knack for outrageous lies has rubbed off on Mittens.”
No. Mittens didn’t need any help in that regard. They’re just two peas in a pod.

@Mike: “If he is as religious as he says he is he will do it, they are suppose to tell the truth, right?”
No. It looks like it’s time again to tell people to google “lying for the Lord”. It is LDS practice (especially for missionaries) to lie to win converts: don’t let them know what the actual beliefs are; don’t get pinned down on details. Sound familiar?

If Romney and that a%%ho%% running mate are elected it will be the beginning of the end of the United States of America that the founding fathers imagined we would become.
