Minneapolis Archbishop John Nienstedt Told Mother: Reject Your Gay Son or Burn in Hell

Saint Paul and Minneapolis Archbishop John Nienstedt, the guy who spearheaded a mass mailing in 2010 of 400,000 anti-gay DVDs, and created a special "marriage prayer" which he asked the state's Catholics to recite during Mass in an effort to create support for the anti-gay amendment on Minnesota's ballot in November, also told the mother of a gay son that she should reject him or risk burning in hell, according to a recently-surfaced letter.

NienstedtWrote Nienstedt:

I write to inform you that the teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexuality,a s described in paragraphs 2357 and 2358 and 2359  of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is rooted in Scripture and based on the Natural Moral Law. It, therefore, shares in God’s revelation to us. Catholics are bound in conscience to believe this teaching. Those who do not cannot consider themselves to be Catholic and ought not to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.

Indeed, some might find this is a hard saying by many of Jesus’ teachings were likewise received as such. I urge you to reconsider the position that you expressed in your letter. Your eternal salvation may well depend upon a conversation of heart on this topic.

DOMA Defender John Boehner Campaigns for Gay Republican House Candidate Richard Tisei in Massachusetts

For House Speaker and DOMA-defender John Boehner, ousting a House Democrat in favor of a Republican trumps differences of opinion on gay rights.

TiseiThe HuffPost reports:

Boehner spent Tuesday morning raising money for Republican candidate Richard Tisei, who is openly gay and supports same-sex marriage.

Tisei, who is running against Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.), seemed to indirectly address the fact that Boehner opposes gay rights in a statement ahead of their joint breakfast event in Boston.

"The Speaker understands that he and I do not agree on absolutely everything, and that I will often be a voice of independent leadership -- particularly if it is not in the interests of the Sixth District," Tisei said. "I look forward to working with the Speaker as a voice of reason and moderation in Congress to help solve our nation's problems."

NAACP's Julian Bond Records Radio Ad in Support of Marriage Equality in Maryland: LISTEN

Julian Bond, chairman emeritus of the national NAACP, has recorded a radio ad in support of Question 6, the ballot measure which would put Maryland's marriage equality law into effect.

Says Bond in the ad, airing in the Washington and Baltimore markets:

"I know a little something about fighting for what’s right and just. Maryland's gay and lesbian families share the same values. And they should share in the right to marry. I believe people of faith understand this isn’t about any one religious belief – it’s about protecting the civil right to make a lifelong commitment to the person you love."

Scientists Spot Metallic Object as Curiosity Probe Takes First Scoopful of Mars: VIDEO

Meanwhile on Mars...

Scientists have spotted something metallic on the Martian surface and aren't sure what it is but think it may be a piece of hardware that fell off the rover itself. The object (A screw, perhaps?) was spotted after the Curiosity rover took its first soil scoop of the red planet.

Another time-lapse video shows how the rover vibrates the soil:

The clip includes 256 frames from Curiosity's Mast Camera, taken at about eight frames per second, plus interpolated frames to run at actual speed in this 32-frames-per-second version. The scoop was vibrated to discard any overfill. Churning due to vibration also serves to show physical characteristics of the collected material, such as an absence of pebbles. The scoop is 1.8 inches (4.5 centimeters) wide, 2.8 inches (7 centimeters) long.

Bay Buchanan Speaks to Gay Conservative Group GOProud, Assures Them Romney Will Win: VIDEO

Pundit Bay Buchanan addressed a crowd of 65 attending gay conservative group GOProud's 'Unity' event in Washington D.C., , mocking Obama and assuring them Romney would win the election. No mention of LGBT rights was made at the event.

The Washington Blade reports:

...the audience seemed largely unconcerned about Buchanan’s position on LGBT issues or the lack of any mention of them.

Jose Romero, 34, a gay D.C. resident, said he came to the event because “it’s time for a change” and after four years of the Obama administration “people aren’t in a better place than they were four years ago.”

“I think everyone has their own issues that are important to them and not everyone’s No. 1 issue is getting married,” Romero said. “The economy, international politics, those types of issues are more important, I think, to some people than others.”

Jimmy LaSalvia, GOProud’s executive director, introduced Buchanan, reminding them his organization is the only national gay organization to endorse Romney because “on issue after issue, a Romney administration would be better for gay Americans, indeed all Americans.”
