Sesame Street Asks Obama Campaign to Pull Big Bird Ad

Bigbird

Sesame Street has asked the Obama campaign to pull the Big Bird ad it began running today.

"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

  1. If Sesame Street makes so much money, let them fund PBS.

  3. @ Andrew, I posted this in response to one of your fellow GOP'ers spouting their anti-PBS talking points. You should read it too:

Sesame Street and it's parent company are NON-PROFIT!!!!! From Wikipedia: "Although it was originally funded by the Carnegie Corporation and the United States Office of Education, the majority of the Workshop's funding is now earned through licensing the use of their characters to a variety of corporations to use for books, toys, and other products marketed toward children. This ensures that the Workshop has reliable access to funding for its programming without depending on unpredictable grants."

This is EXACTLY what Republicans want PBS to do to fund itself. You know who gets the majority of the money from Sesame Street products? They toy companies. The money Sesame does get from licensing goes right back to produce the show. This is EXACTLY what Republicans have been advocating PBS should do and you should be using Sesame as an example. Republicans are demonizng the exact example of how it should be done!!

It's Romney's own fault he didn't do his homework and went after Big Bird and now he looks like a fool. Maybe he should spend more time actually getting educated with Sesame Street. Today's Sesame Street was brought to you by the letter M...M for morons.

  4. @Betty: I am a lifelong liberal democrat. I voted for Obama in 2008 and will do so again next month. I have two "Obama for president" posters in the front windows of my apartment and last month sent his campaign a $100.00 check. Not a fortune to be sure, but imagine the results if all democrats or just gay ones did the same. Hopefully you are not one of the authoritarian types who don't believe in freedom of speech and the right to express differences of opinions.
